I....if Corgan's being genuine in what he says, I respect where his head's at, in terms of really wanting to get in there and try to turn the ship around, but what he doesn't seem to get is that he's starting to climb a really really huge mountain, and the poor dumb bastard just doesn't see the rock slide coming.

I just don't see why Corgan, who says it would be 100% his money, would be dumb enough to inherit this debt and bad sitaution.
Think it's cute that Billy wants TNA to be stable and progress. TNA hasn't had any stability since Spike dropped them. a tv deal like that is p much the only way they can become self-sufficient and not require monthly injections of Corgan equity.
I kind of raise an eyebrow at the fact that he allowed himself to get conned by a low-level money mark like Dixie Carter. This carnival business has taught her well.

Corgan's best bet is to allow TNA to go bust as gracefully as possible, maybe Vince gets the tape library. Then he should spend 6 months to a year raising money and attracting investors before launching a phoenix company on a very low budget under a new name. The involvement of Corgan and a few other names who aren't good enough/too old for WWE/ROH such as Abyss and Tyrus can mean that they'd be viewed as a heir to TNA. Big names they are on good terms with (Gail Kim, Hardys) would be too expensive to use often but could be booked once or twice a year if they budget well.
Basically back to square one but with no debts and no Dixie.

I have this mental image of Billy Corgan sitting at a table surrounded by 10 lawyers, and they're all telling him what a bad idea this is.

How can you not have money to run a show Sunday but some how sign Cody and Brandi Rhodes? They had money to run a show until they signed Cody and Brandi. Go figure. Way to go TNA!

Updated the title to reflect the fact that we're talking about more than just the Meltzer article. Also, the OP has been updated with all the interesting articles.
About why Corgan would even want TNA, I really think it's about the certainty of having an existing infrastructure in place. Sure, he could probably talk to Pop about getting a timeslot for the Billy Wrestling Federation, but TNA already has a deal in place and they like TNA; same with the international deals. Same thing with the talent, sure a lot of the guys won't probably get signed by WWE, but you never know and they could decide to snatch some guys Corgan was interested in (say a Lashley).
That said, things don't seem to be really moving on his end and, if TNA can't put the PPV on the air, they're pretty much dead, which would allow WWE to scoop up the tape library and other assets they would be interested in. That's something Corgan hinted at as he confirmed in the interview with Busted Open that WWE is at the negotiating table.

TNA is for the kings and most sinister type of fans. The ones who want WWE style without WWE. The one who want WCW around but aren't sure why. Competition isn't the correct word here, as has been evidenced by their attempts at competing. Their identity is literally "almost WWE" That's also a problem though. There IS a market for a WCW in the pro wrestling world as an alternative to WWE that gives you the same WWE style, as opposed to the more niche markets of pro wrestling. There CAN be a number two promotion to WWE in the market and work. It's also the thing all the people who say "Why want TNA to go under and close up more jobs for wrestlers nationally!" need to understand: Not only is there a PLACE in the wrestling market for a WCW-type promotion, there's actually a NECESSARY place in the wrestling market for a WCW- and nature abhors a vacuum. If you are worried about TNA closing down due to putting the wrestlers out of work, just think back to 2001. WCW was bought by WWF, and there was a vacuum there- only more because ECW, the top "niche" promotion in North America, ALSO got bought by WWF and caused a total monopoly and vacuum for WWF. The end result in 2001? It wasn't closing up shop for the poor wrestlers. Instead: MECW opened. PWX opened. XWF opened. WWA opened. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few of the failed experiment promotions in 2001-02 and I'm sure one of the other historians can add more to the list- but a lot of other promotions tried to open up with the goal of bringing a WCW-style promotion back to prominence, and that kept going on and on for the next 15 months until TNA opened up and actually took root enough to become that "WCW-style" promotion. If TNA closes down? I can almost guarantee that the same aftereffect will ripple through the wrestling world as happened in 2001: A bunch of different schysters/conmen will open up promotions trying to be the "new TNA" and rival the WWE- and eventually, one of those promotions will take root enough to thrive...and in all likeliness, that promotion will AT LEAST pay their wrestlers, which TNA couldn't do. This is where the problem lies here. YES there needs to be an alternative to the WWE or at less a successful number two that a wrestler CAN make a living by just working at said company. TNA isn't that. TNA has been horribly ran by people who don't have any idea on what they are doing and had little to no knowledge about wrestling to make it work. TNA had money from Panda Energy but they got tired of losing money. TNA issue was unable to turn into the green mainly by over paying on high dollar talent and lack of advertising which lead to poor Ticket sales when they where on the road. Bad booking on understanding how a PPV works and by killing that market no buyrates. What all those feds you listed the one thing they all didn't have was money and most did a set of show or shows before folding because of cost. I remember on a news site, this was like 2004 Hogan was asked about starting his own fed and he said something on the lines of needing 100 Million to start a true next WCW. I'm sure all of them together didn't have that and TNA may have but didn't know how to use it right. The wrestlers jobs are not that big of a deal in the TNA situation because most of them already work else where and more will get booked more because that TNA fee would be gone that indies don't have to pay. If you a true talent you will get booked. Do I hope another TNA like company comes that pays there wrestlers and has a clue on how to promote themselves and such? Yes. Hell ROH could be that if they got a set in stone of a TV time slot that advertised it. If ROH had more money to lock up the talent and could get into bigger arenas. They can easily become a legit number 2 which I see them as a number 2 more I see TNA as at this point.

"Put them first." f***ing pay them. If TNA paid people on time, the vitriol on this level would not exist. Absolutely this. All the other bullshit about the quality of the shows, the constantly getting the WWE castoffs and trotting them out to burn the WWE bridge, that wouldn't get peoples' blood boiling as much on it's own. But when you show such a disrespect for your workers, when you get them injured, some to the point where it ends their careers, for your BTS crew to be so underpaid that they're basically working for charity... That's when you've earned the right for people to tell you "f*** off forever". And this stuff about "Without TNA there's no alternative"...so laughable. People want to pretend that they have no options now because they just want free TV. Any indy worth it's salt has digital content now, so...get what you pay for, I guess. It's a mentality that's so prevalent now, and let's a lot of shitty companies off the hook in this market now. There are choices now, and everything doesn't have to be shit all the time.

That's something Corgan hinted at as he confirmed in the interview with Busted Open that WWE is at the negotiating table. True, but if these things remain as they are and Corgan doesn't get a better NA TV deal, then what is he doing? He's essentially just setting his money on fire. TNA has been hemorrhaging money since Spike cancelled them; just because he's Billy Corgan and he has his own money he will gladly inject is not the solution. This is much bigger than just TNA needing a new owner and a guy with money. They need a plan to become self-sufficient and have enough money coming in to where things are sustainable. I can;t really imagine that there is that big of a TV deal out there right now. There has never ever been more wrestling available and there have never been less eyes watching it. This industry is ice cold. This is a guy who gets conned by Ditsy Carter, so now we're supposed tob elieve he has the answers? IDK good luck to him. Do agree that the biggest risk would be Hardys/Lashley going to WWE. That and at the very least if things go tits up in 3 months and Bill realizes he made a huge mistake, he can then flip the video library to WWE to get something back.

This always happens. It get's close to the end.. And then Dixie will Tweet something like 'Huge Announcement Coming Sugs' .. And then something will keep them afloat for another few months before the whole cycle happens again. Although yes they are running out of "Legal" options

At this point the smartest thing Corgan could do is start tapping his connections not for money to fund Bound for Glory, but to pull an exodus and take everyone he can with him to a new company without the same taint. If he's this passionate about being involved in wrestling then it's a smarter use of his money to have Aroluxe buy him out and pay him back however deep in he is, then turn around and take all the talent he can with him. Get investors for a new promotion without the same issues, try and get the Pop TV deal if the network president likes him so much, and do it without the baggage or absurd debt TNA's incurred.

I'm not a lawyer but that's probably not legal as long as TNA still technically exists. Also.
