Should have gone with Mindy Kaling.
Honestly, I'll probably give it a try, seeing as I find Barbie mythos pretty amusing on the whole. I didn't like Trainwreck outside of the amazing John Cena parts, but as Shumer didn't write this, who knows, might be fun.

More power to her if she pulls it off. I just can't see Barbie as being the type of toy with a plot. Transformers and GI Joe at least had a basic good-verse-evil thing going for it, but what's Barbie got? Hopefully this won't be like Jem.

Sony have a huge property on their hands that could make massive amounts of money if they just made an animated movie and aimed it at the 7 year old girls who love Barbie, but no, they want to do some sort of idiotic deconstruction instead.
*sighs*
Just sell it to Disney. They showed in Toy Story 2 and 3 that they get what Barbie is supposed to be.

Isn't the reason why Netflix is getting rid of the ratings system because of the influx of negative reviews from Schumers recent Netflix Produced Standup special? She has been pretty unpopular lately with how she became memesized about jokes of her vagina, accusations of joke stealing, and her non stop political postings. I like Amy Schumer but if the studio see's that Amy Schumer isn't very well liked and if they are trying to make a movie marketed towards little girls, they still have to market it to the parents to get the kids in the theater. I get that. Like they don't want any eye rolling dads who will try to convince their kids not to see the movie. I think Sony lost money with Ghostbusters and are constantly losing money lately so it's probably not a good idea to get a controversial lead on this project.

I think the special played a part in the ratings system but I would not put it all on her. However, as you said she has become "unpopular" to a certain extent after how she was when she was popular. Hopefully this allows them to go back to the drawing board because I am pretty sure this would of been a movie filled with Amy humor and appeasing to fans of her humor.

This would have never worked with her, so I'm glad but I have no idea who they could possibly cast as Barbie.

The only other way, beside the one I suggested, to do a Barbie movie is like something from Enchanted. Barbie crosses over from her world into the real world, and various comedic antics ensue, along with a love triangle between Barbie, Ken, and some dude from the real world. Add a Legally Blonde vibe, and it's a no brainer.
