Beltran to the Astros, I didn't realize I stepped into a time machine.
Joking aside color me shocked, no one was even linking him to the Astros. But I guess it makes sense in the grand scheme of things they're a small market team who probably didn't want to spend the money and years on Edwin Encarnación.

I wouldn't give up on AJ Reed just yet. Encarnacion is good, but that could easily turn into a bad contract after two years. Beltran was also very good last year. I like it as a short-term stopgap.

The slogan for the Astros next year: "We're going to score 8 runs a game, but also give up 11."

As I said I'm the last thread, the CBA screwed over Oakland in the worst way.
I don't care about it from the perspective of it being a backlash from Money ball, although I think sabermetrics is grotesquely overrated, but that it all but guarantees the A's moving elsewhere since they can't pay the lease at the 2nd worst ballpark in the States.

Is it really so bad? The A's are f***ing over the A's over not the CBA. And why would it be a bad thing if they moved to a better ball park in a city that will give them a new place to call home. Follow the Raiders lead A's and go to Vegas.

I'm just saying if you are an Oakland sports fan, you better get used to going from 3 professional sports teams to 0.

Why aren't the Orioles trying to get Machado signed to an extension? The closer he gets to free agency, the more likely he gets too expensive for them and ultimately leaves Baltimore

Yes, he deserves it as both a commissioner and Brewers' owner. Deserved it more than 2 of the 4 other commissioners already in (Chandler & Frick were garbage.) And, who were they gonna pick, Steinbrenner? Pfft.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Nationals are trying to acquire both Andrew McCutchen and Chris Sale and believed that they have the necessary prospects to do so.

It's totally deserved. He obviously deserves his share of criticism for the 1994 strike that cancelled the World Series, which should be in the first paragraph whenever you discuss the legacy of Bud Selig, but he also oversaw Major League Baseball during a tremendous financial boom in the mid-to-late 1990s and early-2000s, he instituted the Wild Card - making the game much more competitive for proverbial bubble teams, and he helped to avoid a work stoppage in 2002. He wasn't the perfect commissioner but he should be inducted into Cooperstown.

While what you say is true, The rekindling of America's love affair with baseball (and a big part of the financial boom) came in large part due to the McGwire/Sosa HR chase in 1998, which was during the height of the steroid era. An era that Selig turned a blind eye to, in spite of some pretty obvious indications that something was seriously amiss. So, I dunno man. I have a problem with guys like Bonds and Clemens being kept out of the HOF for steroid abuse when the guy who was at the wheel when this happened gets in so easily. But the BBWAA are a bunch of hypocritical dicks, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised

Sale would be a great addition for them. But while they need hitting, McCutchen is trending down. Hard to believe he's only 30, because he seems like he's in the twilight of his career. His contract isn't horrible either. But he doesn't seem like what they need right now. Let Turner develop and their line-up should be alright.

As long as you keep Turner and Robles, it's a great deal for a proven, consistent elite pitcher. Especially when you consider how well most AL pitchers do with the transition to NL as opposed to the opposite.

Everyone wanting Sale says the White Sox are asking for too much.
That's their problem. The Sox don't "have to" trade him at all.
