But anyways this looks like a Mission Impossible film with a Mummy Literally the first words out of my wife's mouth were "oh is this Mission Impossible?"

The gender reversal of female mummy trying to claim male victim is interesting. Can't say much else for it.

Oh yeah and the trailer spoiled that Cruise is undead, and I'm guessing finds out he has some connection to the Mummy.

Aren't the Abbott and Costello Meet the __________ films already premised on the idea of a shared cinematic universe? Come on, Universal Studios, sort out your shit.

When I first watched the trailer on TV I could of sworn this was a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow until I saw no robots and they were talking about monsters.

But anyways this looks like a Mission Impossible film with a Mummy I thought the exact same thing. It hits all of the "Mission: Impossible" beats: 1) an unexpected crash or accident using some type of military transportation 2) absurd, almost unrealistic action 3) gunfire and explosions which Tom Cruise narrowly avoids 4) international landmarks being decimated 5) Tom Cruise sprinting away from looming catastrophe That said, I'm oddly willing to give it a try. I don't expect it to be great, or even pretty good, but I really liked the 1999 remake and I'm curious to see how Universal Pictures plans on tying these films and monsters all together.

Apparently this is the first entry of The Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe and Russell Crowe is playing Dr. Jekyll and is the Nick Fury of the franchise. And they already got Javier Bardem signed to play Frankensteins Monster and Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man So we just got completely unrelated Dracula and Frankenstein AAA movies IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS? i'm sorry you said AAA movies right? they weren't even hot GARBAGE movies ..... as for this one, saw the trailer on TV ..... and it looks ..... well ..... intriguing! too much of the plane though, almost felt like something comic-con would show!

What does this mean for the Scorpion King? Does Dwayne Johnson show up with a flame thrower in the sequels?

Just got a trailer for this on Youtube. It looks like a parody of the DC movies. Were a couple points in the trailer where I laughed when I clearly wasn't supposed to.
And they need to just let the Universal monsters thing die. It didn't work with Van Helsing, it's most likely not going to be work now. Let it go.

I think there will be more than one thesis written on how this is what is wrong with old school Hollywood based on this dreck. The Disney franchises of Marvel and Star Wars took young up coming stars and or relative unknowns and catapulted them into something huge with small help from older established names. This is taking an old nostalgia theme, putting an over done modern spin on it, and slotting in the biggest names from the past decade on their way down. I don't think they even try anymore. Has anyone heard of the boardgame Dreamfactory (AKA Traumfabrik) ? It feels like that's how movies get made these days.
I got the genre Horror, I picked The Mummy, Tom Cruise, Russel Crowe, Special Effects, and Alex Kurtzman how many points do I get?

The Mummy 1999 worked because it didn't take itself too seriously and was fun to watch.
This looks very generic, and if indeed the studio are planning on this being the start of a monsters cinematic universe, they may as well prepare themselves for failure right now, because it certainly won't work. I just don't think audiences give two shits about the Wolfman, Frankenstein's Monster, Jekyll and Hyde etc...

I laughed. A lot. When he yelled. Maaaan..I know this isn't based on Brenden Frasiers Mummy, rather the original Mummy but this just looks Meh.
This studio needs to realize that Frankenstein, Invisible Man,Dracula etc...aren't these big tentpole action flicks drenched in CGI. If these are gonna work, hire good actors, a good director, modernize it, make it scary, and keep it very very simple.

The Brendan Fraser movies were still set in the 20's and 30's. Granted they were also a fantasy action adventure movie and not a horror movie but still. Also this movie doesn't really look based on the Original Mummy either outside of the monster being a mummy.
