I called into Opie and Anthony back when they were still on regular radio in New York. They were my favorite talk radio hosts. It was a few days after 9/11 and they were just letting people call in and vent. Actually helped me alot to just say the shit that I felt I couldn't say to anyone at the time.

Back when pro wrestling was the hottest thing on the planet, Mark Madden dedicated a part of his show to wrestling-related discussion. I called in to ask why WCW dropped the TV title.
I know most people hate Mark, but he was nice to me when I called. Probably because I sounded like I knew what I was talking about.
Not exactly the same thing, but I won four radio contests. That was how I got my first CD.

Haven't called in, but the morning zoo that plays here on a national broadcast will come up for a live show a couple times a year, and one time I got on to play their Name That Blank game. I won 4 to 1 to 1 to 1 against three other opponents.

Back in 2002, my friend and I used to prank all these different internet radio shows with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Miss Cleo clips. You'd be surprised how many people still fell for it. The highlight was when one guy made "Arnold" the special guest host because he genuinely thought he had the real guy on the line. He kept us on for over an hour and had no clue.

Yes. Several times. Various topic from wrestling to movies. One time I called into to defend the XFL after week 2. Turns out I was wrong. It did suck.

I text in to a local morning show on a fairly regular basis, I'm too chicken to actually call.

I've tried to win a few radio contests for Chiefs/Royals tickets. What throws me is when they say "call [phone number] and be the [x]th caller and win!" and then you call and once you get through they just name the radio station and wait for a response, like you're about to order something. I've always felt so awkward. I feel like the only options are to make an ass out of myself ("Ummmmm....the tickets?"), or be a dick to them ("Yeah, so....what the hell? Did you just forget about the tickets?").
On the other hand, I actually had a radio block to myself in college. I've always told myself I'd love to do that again, and I plan on pursuing it once I have a decent way of putting together an audition tape and done some more homework on how to get that out there. I did have a couple callers, but I never put anyone on the air. Usually they were asking what time a basketball game broadcast was or what a song I previously played was (my block was devoted to either older music or more obscure stuff that didn't get radio play...it was a very hipster-ish block, which was the point). I did have one caller ask for, and I'm quoting here "that unedited, uncensored, uncut, Gangsta's paradise bullshit". I just gave him a loud, Daffy Duck-ish "HA!" and hung up.

1) a radio station called the place I worked one day and I answered the phone. There was an earthquake in my town that day, and this reporter was looking for eyewitnesses to describe what happened. I never heard myself on the radio.
2) a CBC regional show was doing a call-in for requests of listener's favorite Swedish music (it was some ABBA- related thing going on). All the requests were ABBA-related until they played mine... "Cusp of Eternity" by Opeth and "The Final Countdown" by Europe (both Swedish bands).

I've tried calling in to win WWE tickets on my local rock station (Lamont and Tonelli Show), but have never gotten through.
I did win some tickets through the station on a text-in contest once, though.

One of my deepseated shames is how bad I came across as a kid whenever I got on the radio for something.
Doubled when I actually got my own radio block and held it for years and realized just how bad it was beforehand.

I didn't get on the air, but an old station in Atlanta called 99X (A station that was out-f***ing-standing) had a nightly show called "Living Loud" or something like that. I remember calling in and requesting "Push It" by Static-X (Ugh). They told me to keep listening and they would play it within the hour.
They never played it. But considering the song/band, I can't really blame them.
There was a time where I did get on the air and I was terrified. There was a local talk station that has a sports show on Saturday mornings. They had a fantasy baseball league where, if you happened to win it all, you'd win "BIG prizes!" Well, I ended up winning it all that season and they asked me to call in. I remember not talking much, but I felt like I came off pretty normal. I didn't get shit for winning and years later I would attend a trivia night at a local bar ran by the former host of that show. He pretended to know nothing about the fantasy baseball stuff and, later that night, tried to get my fiancee to come to his house for beers. So yeah, life comes at you fast.
