I listened to the Tito one this week after not listening in a while and....man, the show feels diluted since the early days. It’s a nice, quick and informative listen, don’t get me wrong, but the question and answers between Conrad and Bruce sounded forced and scripted. More often than not Bruce would begin with ‘Yes, absolutely...’, as if Conrad had answered his own question. In their defence, I’ve discovered the Lapsed Fan podcast in the last year, so maybe I’m just more used to that format now. Some of the recent and upcoming STWW episodes look interesting, but it just feels flat compared to previous shows. Lapsed Fan has definitely won me over in the last year or so, with the year by year coverage of the Fall of WCCW and more recently the Collision in Korea episode which I had no idea Inoki negotiated the release of Japanese soldiers from Saddam Hussein. The World Class tour sucked me into them. This current Pacific "tour" has been tremendous.

Weren't Valentine and Haku also part of that late 90 purge only to be brought back? I believe both of those guys were always announced for the Rumble though while Tito never was. They definitely were cutting the budget post Survivor Series by releasing a lot of veteran guys. Volkoff, Zhukov, Ax, and Honky Tonk were all pretty much done after that show. Honky Tonk it seemed like they wanted to keep around as he was on commentary up until the Rumble (which he was also announced for but didn't make it) but left because when he switched to commentary they low balled him with a new contract and he decided to quit. Volkoff and Zhukov did some jobs TV jobs in December and that was it for both of them sans Volkoff's brief appearance in the 92 Rumble as an alternate for Marty Jannetty. Survivor Series was it for Ax as he never appeared again. A According to Bret's book Haku and Hammer were let go. I don't know what's up with Haku since his historyofwwe.com still has him on various shows. Same with Hammer but IIRC he wasn't in the Royal Rumble program. Honkytonk and Buddy Rose were the original ones scheduled in his spot. Hammer was schedule originally for the rumble based on the 1990 December WWF magazine but that was as a heel with R&B. I can see Tito getting a great send off with the Survivor Series wins seeing how good his showing was. It wouldn't surprise me if WWF thought things threw and realized they needed a pretty good name who could make the newcomers look good with getting a win over him.

Haku's stock within the company had fallen really low at that point so it wouldn't surprise me if they cut him and then brought him back after Rude quit so he could take his spot at Survivor Series and also just simply to have another body in the Heenan Family which was getting smaller and smaller with Perfect and Barbarian being the only other remaining charges for the Brain. Also with the Bossman-Heenan storyline they were doing at the time it made sense for Heenan to have as many guys as possible to protect him and be road blocks leading up to the Bossman/Perfect IC title match at Mania.

Haku could have been released earlier than post Survivor Series but Bret's timeline (keeping the notes) would seem off. Haku wasn't even scheduled for the Survivor Series. I was totally shocked about 20 years ago when I saw Rick Rude's picture with the Earthquake team. Same for Akeem on Slaughter's.

I was totally shocked about 20 years ago when I saw Rick Rude's picture with the Earthquake team. Same for Akeem on Slaughter's. I was too and then even more about seven or eight years ago when on WWE.com they released team photos over the years and one was a unreleased photo of the Million Dollar Team with Bad News Brown in it. Unlike Rude and Akeem, Bad News wasn't ever announced to be at the show. Bad News last match was Summerslam 1990 against Jake Roberts so I guess they took all the team photos at that event and since Bad News left so far ahead of Survivor Series they were able to instead advertise the mystery partner who of course ended up being Undertaker. I was always curious to how the matches would've played out differently if Bad News, Rude, and Akeem had been in them as scheduled. Like would they have really done the Bad News walks out on his team thing for the third year in a row? I can't really see him jobbing to anyone either though. Rude I guess would've had a fight to the back DCO with Bossman or maybe got pinned by Bossman but then interfere afterwards and cause him to get pinned by Quake. I can't see Akeem getting jobbed out to Tito in 30 seconds like Zhukov was. I guess maybe flying forearmed or battering rammed out of ring by the Bushwhackers and counted out.

I can see Tito eliminating Akeem pretty quickly. His stock was way down the whole 1990. He got eliminated by Jimmy Snuka (also low stock in 1990) at the Rumble like one entry after he came out and he lost to Bossman in a minute or two at WrestleMania. He wasn't even the focus at the PPV, it was Dibiase and Bossman. I feel bad for Akeem. I have to agree with Bruce Prichard who said that Akeem and Bossman should have had more of a feud considering they had been partners for a year plus.

I have to agree with Bruce Prichard who said that Akeem and Bossman should have had more of a feud considering they had been partners for a year plus. It did seem like they were kind of heating him back up a little bit towards the end of his run as they started a program with Saba Simba before he bailed. I know it was clearly a lower midcard feud but it was still something. Losing at Mania in two minutes even after Dibiase attacked Bossman before the match definitely seemed like the end of him at least as far him being any kind of player goes though. However he was still getting protection on TV treatment afterwards. Lost only by DQ in a rematch against Bossman on the April SNME although Bossman did have a visual pin on him before Dibiase did a run in. Had another match with Jake around that time on Prime Time where he again only lost by DQ. With him being a bigger guy who was involved in an angle (albeit a small one) I don't think he would've got pinned quickly like Zhukov did. Then again in the Grand Finale match Tito got a super quick pin on Warlord who was getting more of a push then Akeem was at that point, so maybe him taking a quick surprise pin isn't as far fetched as I'm making it out to be. Bossman and Akeem definitely should've had more of a feud but Dibiase was definitely much more of a priority so I guess they just wanted to shift Bossman towards him as quickly as possible. Also I guess with as goofy as the Akeem character was I guess they didn't think he could work in more an intense feud like that. Although in the lead up to WrestleMania Akeem did show a lot more intensity in his promos and cut out most of the goofy stuff out. So maybe he could've been up for it if they had given him the chance.

With Bruce’s recent promotion, don’t know how much longer the show will go on.

With Bruce’s recent promotion, don’t know how much longer the show will go on. Did he ever tell the Dusty Rhodes story he said he was saving at the end of the first Ask Bruce Anything episode from December 2016? First thing I thought of when I heard the news.

I could see him taking Bruce to Patreon only with shows every two weeks or twice a month. Other than that, I agree..... I can't see Bruce having the time for an hour long podcast every week (let alone 1-2 hours).

With Bruce’s recent promotion, don’t know how much longer the show will go on. At this point, it feels like a sad, old animal that just need to be put out of its misery. I'm sure their still getting tons of listens, but it seems like the show's popularity has tanked.

I finally caught up on the last 3 Pat Patterson episodes. Life long friends and great stories.
I am looking forward to January which is normally "Royal Rumble month" on STWW Bruce Prichard.

They put out a bonus show about Andre the Giant. It's sponsored by Geico, and they do plug them quite a bit. At least the plugs are a lot quicker than the usual ads.

I just got a notification that STW #248: No Holds Barred premieres today, Dec. 25th. Didn't we already get a No Holds Barred episode around this time in 2018?

It's quite amazing that this show had NO POSTS on this board between July and December 2020.
