Today, WWE have released on iTunes a new album of highly sought after theme songs over the years such as the Chris Jericho debut theme, Eddie's solo theme and the Smackdown 1999 theme. itunes.apple.com/us/album/wwe-uncaged/id1185077337The plan is to release more of these if they sell well (Hello Corre themes), so if you are a fan of these and want to see more then I urge you to buy rather than download from YouTube etc. The track list is as follows: 1. "Smack" - Smackdown 1999 Theme 2. "Holla If Ya Hear Me" - Scott Steiner 3. "Break The Walls Down" (Version 1)- Chris Jericho 4. "Viva La Raza" - Eddie Guerrero 5. "Desert Threat" - Iron Sheik 6. "Dragon" - Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat 7. "Blayzing Hot" - Alundra Blayze 8. "The Horror" - The Boogeyman 9. "Buffalo" - Tatanka 10. "Posse" - Mean Street Posse 11. "Star of Vega" - Savio Vega 12. "Hardwood" - Bam Bam Bigelow 13. "Green Mist" - Tajiri 14. "Fighter" - Dan Severn 15. "I Walk Alone (Acoustic)" - Batista WM30 Commercial 16. "Voices (Acoustic)" - Randy Orton WM30 Commercial

So, is that Steamboat's 80s theme, or the one he inherited from Ultimo Dragon?

Nevermind, it's not *THE* Bam Bam theme we've been waiting for.
Still a great collection, but man, that would have put the theme trading world on its ear.

The song was actually called "Sirius", and it's been dubbed over since the DVD days. I never would've thought something like the Alan Parsons Project would be so expensive, rights-wise.

It's not that it's particularly expensive, it's that it costs anything at all. If WWE doesn't have to pay publishing royalties, they outright won't. That's why you never hear "Don't Go Messing With a Country Boy" or any other song they don't outright own the publishing for. If you look at the themes that don't get dubbed over, it's the ones that are remakes of already existing themes or Jim Johnson compositions that the artists tweaked. The publishing on these songs are always credited to Stephanie Music, so WWE only has to pay the artist a one time-fee for the recorded master and that's it.

What's interesting to me then, is where songs like Cult of Personality, or any of the number of PPV themes over the years, fit into all this, given that they don't fall into any of the categories you just mentioned.

What's interesting to me then, is where songs like Cult of Personality, or any of the number of PPV themes over the years, fit into all this, given that they don't fall into any of the categories you just mentioned. "Cult" is a special exception which was signed with an extensive multi-year worldwide licensing, similar to when WWE licenses a song as the theme for one of their shows like the Green Day or Nickleback songs. That song's publishing is owned by Sony Music ATV, and was originally supposed to be a short term license, but the spike of interest that the Summer of Punk had opened the window for a long-term multimedia licensing deal to go into effect. It wouldn't surprise me if either in 2017 or 2021 you start hearing it redubbed. The PPV themes are a case-by-case situation as sometimes those deals are done with specific advertising promotional requirements. Pre-network, you wouldn't see or hear mentions of the theme's artist for Classic on Demand airings. The DVDs, if the agreement dictated, would sometimes open with an unskippable brief commercial for an artist's album. Usually the use of a song coincides with a specific album or single release, so these agreements are made as a promotional push. It's a wholly different scenario than WWE reaching out to license a Johnny Cash or Metallica song for a Wrestlemania entrance/montage.

I wish WWE would release The Federation Era again. This was a collection of 80s & 90s themes including Demolition, Rockers, LOD, The Rougeau Brothers, and so on. It was on iTunes briefly and then it just vanished. I think you can listen to it on Spotify.
And where is WCW Slam Jam?! WWE went through all that legal trouble with Jimmy Papa and they own the music now; why not make some cash off of it? They would get at least one buyer with me.
I might pick up the themes for Steamboat, Tatanka, and Bam Bam from this collection, since I have most of the others already.
