My girlfriend and I were talking about this the other day.
We've lived in our condo for over three years. There are roughly 12 units on our floor. Maybe once a week, we will actually see anybody on our floor. It's a rarity. I don't think I even know anybody's name.
This seems very strange to me, considering the relationships my family had with their neighbours over the years. That said, I have friends who also live in condos that have similar relationships (or lack thereof) with neighbours.
My parents live in a house (the one I grew up in), so maybe it's a house vs. condo thing, but I wonder if my experience is typical or not.
What about you guys?

Same here. 16 unit condo building. I know 3 other unit owners by name, and that is only because I am the board president, two of them are the other board members, and the fourth comes to each meeting.
Otherwise I don't know them at all.
My speakers aren't working, but I think this comedian's routine is a bit about the difference between someone knocking at the door when he was a kid, and someone knocking on the door today

Hardly at all. Our neighbor is an elderly diabetic who we know the name of but he never seems to know who we are despite living here over 5 years. He isn't too good at taking his meds so the ambulance is out in front at least 3x a month.
ETA: We are in a stand-alone house.

It's the same on my road, sadly. My partner and I have lived here for 13 years next year, and don't know anyone. Actually, that's not true - we know the neighbours on one side and don't get on with them! I should point out that it seems to be the same all along my road; there's very little interaction amongst people, so it's not just my partner and I.
I actually find this quite sad, and while I don't know if it's just bad luck to live on a road like this or just 21st Century life, it would be nice to be able to interact with neighbours.

I rarely speak to my neighbours but the walls of our bedrooms are next to each other, so I guess I know my neighbours rather too well in some things!

My mom talks more to the neighbors, than my dad does, lol. They usually say hi to me, so I say hi to them.

We've known our one neighbor since we moved in, they have kids roughly the same age as our two. My wife would watch them while the dad was at work.
Our neighborhood is mainly older folks, which I like.

I talk to my neighbor across from me in my apartment complex a few times a week. Our dogs play together really well.

I live in a small apartment building and I only know the property managers name. The girl that lives across the hall used to have huge fights outside our door and outside. Plus she's awful to her kids.
The neighbors below us keep to themselves. I only ever her their kid playing. The neighbor across from them has two cats and never changes their litter box. Everyday when I get home from work, the smell hits me.
The other side I really don't know. An older woman with her kids. A couple of weird guys who just stare at you when they see you. The property manager and a couple of guys above him.

Too well. My home is one of the few single family homes on the block. Half the people hold court in my yard during the warmer months of the year. My mom played landlord last year, so a couple of the neighbors became housemates.

I live way out in the country. So most of my neighbors I know by nicknames.
Cajun Guy-Lives right next to us. Is only up at his place by us maybe 4 times a year.
Old Dude that wears nothing but really short cut offs-Nice guy. But I do worry about him getting skin cancer.
Leatherface-Lives across the water from us,maybe 30 feet.Nicknamed him Leatherface cause years back I saw him on his dock in cut offs and high tops swinging a chainsaw around while dancing.

The Neighbor on the right, the Wife was the main Secretary at the High School when I went. She's also friends with my Aunt.
The Neighbor on the left is actually the daughter of the ones on the right.
The old bat across the street has lived there as long as we have. Ok lady.
Lady across the alley is a shut in who hasn't left her house for 10 or 12 years.

I don't know them particularly well, but some of them annoy me for different reasons. The one to the east of my house used my fence as part of his new fence without asking (he did the same to the guy on the other side as well). I guess it would have been silly to build a fence right against mine, but because he did so it now feels even more awkward discussing replacing my fence (it won't match what he built).
The other one actually actively pisses us off from time to time. The barking dog in the back yard is a bit hard to expect them to change, but there are other things that irritate the hell out of us. The main thing was that we had a wild weed garden in the corner of our front yard (basically, a plot of landscaping that was designed to look like we dropped a bit of wilderness in our front yard) that bordered their yard. They did not like it so they went out and put weed killer on all of the plants and then acted surprised when we asked what the hell they thought they were doing (they claimed they thought it was on their property, but funny enough never mowed around it in all the years we had been there).
Maybe they thought it was an eyesore. You know what I think is an eyesore? I don't like the fact that he always has a junker up on blocks that he works on every weekend two feet from my front yard. I don't like the fact that there is a busted washing machine sitting in the front of their yard. I don't like the fact that their house has green mold growing all over their vinyl siding. Additionally, while it is not an eyesore I don't like that one of their kids plays drums at night in the garage with the big door open.

I know two people that live in my little subdivision and one them moved in after knowing then for years. All but one lady has moved out or passed on, new people have moved in but I have never had the desire to meet or know them.

The neighbor to the right of me is a pretty cool lady who's offered to babysit my kids on a few occasions, so that's always helpful in a pinch... Then the neighbor across from us is dubbed "Crazy Cat Man" because he has dozens of cats, keeps to himself, and rakes his dessert landscape (his front yard is nothing but sand) every morning. The neighbors behind us got booted by their landlord for having dogs that were too loud....they were jerks. The other neighbor across from us is a single mom...pretty cool chick.

I talk to my next door neighbour whenever we meet. I have him on Facebook and LinkedIn. We helped his next door neighbour move a couch into her apartment. My other next door neighbours, however, is a different story. The old man's life is ruined by alcohol, always depressed, and his partner is a nutcase who can't stop peeking inside my apartment. They're evicted.

I interact with a few of my neighbors, like this one woman has given me rides before. I have talked to some others, too. Another one I will engage in small-talk with from time to time.

I have never talked to any of my neighbors sadly. I see them and say hello but they go on as if I weren't there.

I am on polite passing conversation terms with the one dude and no one lives on the other side anymore. Used to be some guy that gave off bad vibes that later ended up getting charged with some kinda sexual predator thing so I'm okay with having never put in the time there tbqh.
