Seriously, I can watch today's episodes and still chuckle and laugh at their antics the same way in the early seasons. There's a lot of good episodes out there that people chosing to be ignorant of and don't watch, or flat out refused to watch.

I think Seasons 2-8 of the Simpsons is some of the greatest Television ever. Seven years of excellence is hard. Not many shows can maintain it. It's been no where near that level since and a lot of it has been mediocre to bad but to call it one of the worst of all time after that run? Preposterous

Not even just a favorite show. I feel like an entire generation (or more) have had their sense of humor influenced by this show. I think a lot of comedians of this era could list The Simpsons as more of an influence than most legendary comics. They had more of a far-reaching effect on comedy than probably any other show in history.

Preposterous Season 8 was still great. 9 was a drop-off, but still an immensely watchable show. Someone can't shit on those seasons. Their opinion is wrong.

It's insane to me that a show that debuted when I was only a year old is still on the air. That's a hell of an accomplishment.

And it's going to continue for another 27 years.
Or more like 27,000 years.

I know now, more than ever, after an aborted attempt at a date, probably should ask someone out who was alive when Homer at the Bat was on the air.

Me and my dad bonded over The Simpsons more than we did anything else. It's definitely my favourite TV show of all time and by far the most quotable in my opinion. I still talk in random quotes to my dad daily. Just this morning I said "alcohol and night swimming, it's a winning combination!".

It's gotten better again and n the most recent seasons, but I do still think it's overstayed it's welcome. But it's still too much of a merchandising gold mine to cancel.

I dare you to literally name one year where the Simpsons was the worst thing on tv. Go on. I will follow through on this and point you out as wrong for each year you ay. I could suggest you do the same thing, and then someone else could point out you being wrong, but that's just splitting hairs because everyone's opinion on entertainment is different. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's one of the worst TV shows ever, but I don't feel it's done much to warrant it's extended life over the last 15 years, outside of just being recognizable, but then again that's just me speaking out in favor of artistic integrity over consumer profits. Truth be told, I've gone back and watched the first 10 seasons again recently, and in my opinion, there's a steady drop off around season 7. Yes, there's still good episodes, yes there's still funny or clever moments...but somewhere the charm is scaled back. This will happen with any show over time if it runs long enough, but again the charm of how the Simpsons was written was always part of what I liked about the show. It's the reason why myself and many others who watched the show from the very beginning stopped watching. It felt like it lost it's heart. I remember being 13 and sarcastically thinking what hairbrained scheme is Homer going to get in this week around season 9. Were there still funny moments? Yes. But to me, the Simpsons was always more than just a hilarious show, which just shows how special it was to begin with. When you remove the heart of the show, or recycle the same tropes over and over, it just stops being fun. To me, the Simpsons was never a check your brain at the door comedy. It was never a cheap laugh because those are a dime a dozen. So whenever someone says that other shows out there are "worse", that's never the point that detractors are making. This is a show that no longer takes chances, a show that has been on autopilot for a very long time. The social commentary days have been long over. But if you want to watch an episode where Homer tries to build a pipe to Wisconsin, then make sure you check out season 58.

I liked the final episode, when Homer climbed the Murderhorn
Great way to end the show.

Although I've not seen it regularly since 1996, to me it started to go downhill around this time. As a result, I'm glad I've not seen it much since. I remember thinking that it'd jump the shark when Homer ended up in space....and a week or two later he did. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it for the first five years or so, and twenty seven years on television is an amazing achievement. If it's past its sell by date, however, then it might be best to put it out of its misery.

I'd wager to say that it's basically the most quotable TV show in history.
