The movie is just good not great to me. After I've seen it once, I don't want to see it again.
What about it's sequel? :3

Seeing these marathons on TBS as a kid turned my wife into a lifelong fanatic of this movie. She can quote that thing backwards, forwards and sideways. So you can bet we'll have that marathon going.

Love it. Need to watch it every Christmas, normally I find a showing that's almost over, then watch most of the beginning before having to go a relatives house or something. Catching the middle sometime later in the day.
I have a leg lamp, I've been to the house, and last night I just saw the musical. In a bit of odd peice of triva the house that was used for the outside shots of the house, that's currently being used for tours is only like a half mile from the Cleveland kidnapping house.

I have affection for the movie, but I don't like revisiting it as much as a lot of Christmas movies. Like, Muppet Christmas Carol, I'll watch the shit out of, but I've seen Christmas Story probably at least 20 times by now over my lifetime, and that's probably enough for a bit.

Everyone's favourite? I personally think the film is average but I didn't see it until I was an adult so it doesn't have the "nostalgia clouding the quality" effect on me.

Stay away from the sequel There is two sequels. One is good the other isn't. Or, one is trashed upon for being shit (and rightfully so), while the other is mired in the mists of time & is rarely mentioned. "My Summer Story" actually comprises of what was in Stapleton's memoirs after the holidays. Though, if you thought Randy was stupid here, he's barely functional in the summer movie. You actually question how he breathes ("I wanna get sick! I wanna get sick!" & eating the family goldfish). It did suffer from coming out a decade after the original, negating any chance to capitalize & as such, only one actress got to reprise a role in this version.

I always argue Christmas Vacation is a more memorable film. Aside from the BB gun & maybe the Fragile leg lamp, does anybody recount anything off the tip of their heads? Maybe "Fudge!" & getting tongue stuck on the flagpole but that's it.

I never was a big fan but can handle watching once per year. I highly recommend going to check out the ACS house in Cleveland, very cool. www.achristmasstoryhouse.com/

Christmas time around our house is mega busy, so there's no way to watch the marathon, however I do own the movie on DVD and my mom and I watch it every year in the quiet of the house before Christmas. I absolutely love the movie. Darren McGavin is so amazing in this movie! It's hard to believe, but I think there was a rumor that Jack Nicholson wanted the part of the "old man" but other movie commitments kept him from scoring the role. I think Darren was the better choice anyway.

Stay away from the sequel There is two sequels. One is good the other isn't. A Christmas Story is itself a sequel, and the third film in the "Parker family" series (the first two - and the two following ACS - were made-for-TV). Outside of the most recent sequel ACS 2, all were not only based on the writings of Jean Shepherd, but he was narrator for the first six as well.

None at all
