I wonder if Styles is still salty about this. It was a shitty decision to put the belt on him then and still is shitty over 5 years later.

I have mixed feelings on it. In a sense, I got that RVD was selling exhaustion but yeah, it really did make AJ look kind of awful for RVD to not even bother hooking the leg.

Not sure why it was such a bad decision. Styles was going nowhere with his poor man's Flair act. Where was he going to go with the belt at that point? The idea of putting it on RVD and then building to some big RVD/Angle match was a good one. Being TNA of course they screwed it completely up.

The idea of putting it on RVD and then building to some big RVD/Angle match was a good one. Being TNA of course they screwed it completely up. Pretty much. This came after TNA already bungled him quite a bit. This AJ was like a teenager at a Halloween party. TNA had a tendency to treat him like this "Golly gee, mister!" youth in general, like his MILF porn-tastic angle with Karen, where he may as well have been helping her take in her groceries before she asked him to stay in for milk and cookies. I really feel like it took AJ a long time to mature as a main eventer. He had all of the talent, but the clean cut look and bad booking just often made him seem like this young upstart instead of the full package he is nowadays. That "f*** TNA" world tour did him a lot of good.

lol I'd forgotten about RVD's goofy ass theme music from TNA until watching that clip. That "CAR-LI-TO!" parody of it was gold.

I've been a fan of AJ for years but there is no way I could take this version of Styles seriously as "The Face that Runs the Place" on SDL

I loved RVD winning the TNA title, then again I'm an RVD mark.

It should have been an actual feud and built to a PPV at least.

Hooking the leg is a little over rated.
Too many people hook the leg and forget to cover the shoulders... which is what you are supposed to be pinning to the mat.

AJ was still upset, he mentioned it in his shoots after leaving the company. He was also upset to lose the title to a guy who pretty much stay in tna as a paid vacation.

Hey now AJ wasn't this goofy Flair clone until Hogan arrived. He was perfectly legit as a bonafide main eventer the way he was in late 2009.

Not that RVD was terribly thrilled with his TNA stay, either. It must have been humiliating to have people ask him at the airport why he quit wrestling. That may have even been while he was the champion.

It happened to Christian, Kevin Nash, Angle, and RVD. That says a lot about what the casual fan thoughts of tna, and that was during tna's prime in SPIKE

Rob probably did give a damn about hooking the leg. But he could at least put some weight on AJ to make the pin look better. Normally RVD would hook the leg after the frog splash or at least pin down his opponent's shoulders to the mat. This was more a disrespect even if not intentional.

Hooking the leg is a little over rated. Too many people hook the leg and forget to cover the shoulders... which is what you are supposed to be pinning to the mat. Regal, Taker, and Bret had/have the right idea.
