I'm more-than-annoyed that NIN were skipped again for POS Jane's Addiction.

Please, let's stop with the "hip hop artists shouldn't qualify for the hall" fame argument. I absolutely cannot take it anymore. What's wrong with that argument? I listen to a fair amount of rap but think having non-rock artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just dumb. I get the idea that it's about influential artists regardless of genre, but if that's the case than why not just call it the Music Hall of Fame, instead of acting like Tupac (or Madonna for a non-rap example) had something to do with rock music. The following people were in the very first class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: James Brown Ray Charles Sam Cooke The following were in the second class: Marvin Gaye Bo Diddely B.B. King Smokey Robinson Muddy Waters Since the beginning, it's been about the overall influence and contributions to rock. Rock wouldn't exist without the influences, and to have a Hall of Fame with just the straight-forward rock onwards would be pretty ghastly. It's not just "influential artists regardless of genre," but influence on rock itself. 2Pac, Madonna, N.W.A., Public Enemy all have impacted the genre.

Okay so why NWA and Pac being in doesn't make sense? Not being Rock N' Roll artists? Well seeing how it's called The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, yes. It's like calling yourself Taco Bell and serving deli sandwiches and hamburgers. At this case they should just call it a music hall of fame if they are going to branch out into rap and pop music. I just think it kind of kills the point of having it be called The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame when everyone in music is allowed in the door. Whatever, not like anything I say will change it. It's not "branching." Non-rock has been there since the very, very first class, as I posted above.

Both (Tupac especially) were hugely influential on rap, no doubt, but I've never seen a rock artist cite them as an influence.

Is Johnny Cash in there yet? He may be country, but he was highly influential to the rock genre, and his early work was more on the rockabilly side than straight country.
