I find the new AVGN's to largely be underwhelming. The Berenstain Bears one being the exception.
The fake movie trailer they released this week was really shitty too.

That's easily the worst episode of AVGN ever.
Nothing inspiring about that episode at all. I would've rather of not even had a Christmas episode.
Nothing was said of any significance outside of that most of this stuff didn't work. What a waste of time.

That...that was not good. At all. I can't even blame it on a distaste in pratfall slapstick; I literally own every short and film the Three Stooges ever made.
I think what we're seeing is James' continuing disinterest in the AVGN series starting to take its toll. He's living a bit of a catch-22 in that AVGN is his bread and butter, but he desperately wants to be doing his other projects, the ones no one beyond his circle really has interest in.

I've been watching AVGN since he first started out. This was the first episode that I couldn't watch all the way through, it was a total miss for me.

He ran into the same problem Doug Walker did

He needs to find more crazy messed-up games like Hong Kong 97 and Desert Bus again. The whole absurdity level of those games made for entertaining episodes since it went beyond just "this game sucks".

The fake movie trailer they released this week was really shitty too. Yes, it definitely was. I think the AVGN character needs to die off at this point. The format has been imitated so many times, it's watered down and silly. James Rolfe as himself is now more interesting than the AVGN character. Also, maybe it's just me, but it feels like they're trying to sorta mimic Game Grumps a bit in some of what they do. I've noticed they've put out some Game Grumps-like animated shorts lately as well. I might be reaching with that criticism, but it's just something I've started to notice.

I don't agree with the people in this thread saying that the current AVGN episodes are not good anymore...with the exception of this episode, I've enjoyed every one of them.
I also liked the fake movie trailer. It may not have been extremely hilarious or anything, but I liked it for what it was, and I thought they did a good job of replicating the style of those sort of old movie trailers.
Of course, my opinion is completely worthless anyway, as I like Mike Matei's solo content whenever he does it, and I remember seeing a big backlash and toxic comments going around when he started to do more of it...so yeah.

He's married, has a kid, made a movie, and just years of doing this stuff. He really seems to have trouble keeping it fresh for himself. The Berenstain one was pretty solid, but that Beavis and Butthead one wasn't really much better than this, sad to say.

I disagree with a lot of the thoughts in this thread, but I think it stems from two places 1) A lot of slapstick born from hours of Three Stooges shorts and 2) never really being big into AVGN's early work.

Yeah, there's been some recent gems, like the Mega Man and Paperboy episodes (IMHO). Though I've yet to see this one, I'm almost afraid to now.

I wouldn't even say it stunk, as that would still be eliciting an emotional response. I watched it two days ago and cannot tell you literally one single thing about it.

I didn't think it was that bad, but it wasn't great either. I can see why people hated it, though. I think the episode could have been salvaged if he had actually taken the time to properly review the various accessories instead of basically just using them as props.
Also, I'd never heard of that special guest star, whoever he is, but he looks and acts just like my best friend's annoying former roommate.

Seeing this again, I won't say I think this is the worst episode, but it isn't great. I like it a touch more than the Beavis and Butthead one, or the Deadly Towers experiment.
I would still say it's pretty low if you were to rank episodes. It just is a bit too one-note.

This was a terrible episode, but I don't see it as a sign of avgn's downfall.
James seems to like to experiment. And with experimentation, you get success and failure .........and man, did this fail.
