...what's the payoff to him and Miz?
Part of me wonders if this is all leading up to Bryan returning, but when you consider his myriad of health issues, it would be irresponsible.
But at the same, I wonder if there is no end game planned because Miz and Bryan have such great chemistry and history together, they figured they'd just keep them interacting because it makes for good TV.

I'd say the pay off would be Bryan finding someone to defeat Miz once and for all and sending him to Raw or something if they don't do anything physical. No Mercy was great, but I kind of wish Ziggler didn't win, especially after Miz won back the title 3 weeks later.

Maaaaybe some sort of mutual respect and a face turn, but that'd be a gamble. Miz's previous face turn was underwhelming, but he also seems to be working with writers more tuned in with the strengths and weaknesses of their current roster.

Have to think it's Bryan calling someone from NXT up to whip Mizs ass. Joe likely.

Miz turning old anti-authority antics from the attitude era into dastardly heel moves. Hopefully that will put an end to the evil boss storylines for good.
Seriously, Miz acting like he's Austin would be hilarious.

I am still assuming it is going to lead to one more match with Bryan at Wrestlemania. The whole thing started with Bryan saying how much of a safe style Miz wrestled in the ring, how he never got injured/injured anyone. Who better to put Bryan in the ring with?

The payoff is that Miz also retires and they star on a buddy cop show on the Network which can all be seen for just $9.99!

It would have to be like hoity toity fancy water. A giant truck of Fiji or Evian.

Even funnier if Bryan completely no-sells Miz's attempts to emulate Austin at every single turn.

Shane fights on his behalf because he can't stay away from the ring, and it's a golden opportunity to take spotlight away from actual members of the roster with Shane at the forefront, so they'll not be able to resist. Might need to have Miz cheating with Stephanie McMahon as part of the storyline because anything that can possibly be done to make it all about them, the better? Amiright?

All of this would be even more interesing since Daniel Bryan was an Austin-esque anti authority guy before he retired. Bryan knows all the tricks, so he, like you said no sells Miz and this angle would be, shitty pun intended...awesome.

Still expecting Bryan/Miz at Mania to write Bryan out as he moves to daddy duties, but if not, I can see Bryan bringing Nakamura in to face Miz. Bryan can talk about how much he wanted to work with him, put him over as having the IT FACTOR that Miz wishes he had and wrestler like man (or however they word it).

Bryan steals Maryse and adds her to his wife collection.
He targets Naomi next.

When Bryan's contract is up, they will have Miz fight against one of Bryan's chosen guys where Bryan will leave the WWE forever if Miz wins.

I'm assuming it's leading to Miz getting squashed at Mania by an NXT guy handpicked by Bryan. Probably Joe.
I just hope that it doesn't lead to a Bryan return and Mania match. Partly because it would be incredibly irresponsible on both his and WWE's part, partly because I wouldn't want a Bryan return wasted on the ****ing Miz of all people.
