Not sure how popular Quo are in the US but very well know in the UK.
I know he hasn't been well in recently years but I thought he was on his way to recovery and was planning on doing solo stuff next year, so this has come as a bit of a shock.

Not as familiar with their music as I'd like to be, I've heard their name mentioned dozens of times as influences on many musicians I like.
Rest in peace, sir.

They're the sort of band that are like part of the furniture; they've always been there, they're comfortable and familiar and you know exactly what you're getting with them. Very sad news, especially at this time of year. Sleep well, Rick, and keep on rockin' in the afterlife.

Always enjoyed a bit of Quo, their cover of Rockin' all over the World is one of my favourite songs ever. Yes, their music was all very similar, they even once said of it "forty years, three chords" and never took themselves seriously. They're actually quite under-valued as a live act and don't forget, they opened the biggest concert of all-time, Live Aid. Randomly, I saw him a few times as his uncle lived next door to my grandmother. RIP
