Meltzer didn't give a 5 star rating to any WWE or NXT match this year. No 4.75s either, but he did give a 4.5 on 13 different occassions.
These are those 13 matches; which are your top 2?

My top 2 were DIY vs Revival at Takeover Toronto, and Cesaro vs Sami vs Owens vs Miz.

1. Revival/DIY 2 out of 3 falls tore the house down and was by a decent margin the best match I saw all year. 2. Ibushi/Alexander. I thought it was the best match of the tourney, which was some of the best wrestling all year. Gargano/Ciampa was also good, but in terms of just wrestling and not history/storyline, Ibushi/Alexander was the better pure wrestling match IMO.
EDIT: I missed Nakamura/Zayn. That might have been better than Ibushi/Alexander. At the time, I couldn't see anything topping that match. Nakamura looked made in the US from the word "go."

Zayn/Nakamura Zayn/Owens
Honrable Mention: Kota Ibushi vs. Brian Kendrick
Zayn had a great year coming through when he was given the platform

Wow Zayn v Nakamura was this year? Time flies.
For me the best match I've seen was the DIY v Revival match at the last NXT special. That was almost perfection.

Has to be Zayn/Nakamura and DIY/Revival 2/3 falls
Doesn't get much better than that
HM to ER IC title fatal four way and Zayn/Owens blowoff match at Battleground
BTW we all need Ibushi/Sami before we die

Revival vs DIY. Zayn vs Nakamura.
Zayn's treatment remains baffling, he has three strong MotY candidates including beating Owens and then (basically) nothing.
I think Y2AJ vs New Day was better than many of the entries on Meltzers list though, same with AJ vs Ellsworth but I guess that exists outside of his rating system.

I am not going to put NXT and WWE in the same category, its not fair for the WWE Main roster workers, who have restrictions.
NXT: Easy for me Zayn vs Nakamura. I had never seen a match from him before and he had to deliver because most people hadnt either. This match was pure intensity and the crowd made that match even better. 5 star for me.
WWE: AJ Styles vs John Cena. This match truly deserved the stupid "years in the making" phrase that they always use. We all know that Cena delivers when his opponent is atleast capable, but with the greatest Wrestler in the world as his partner it became a flawless classic.

Lots of good matches on the list, but even despite the wonky false finishes, I thought the Payback match between Reigns and Styles was better than the Extreme Rules one. Though both were quite good.

My favourite match of the year was DIY vs. The Revival (Two out of three falls). I was there in the building and it was just incredible to watch.
After that, I really enjoyed Styles vs. Cena at SummerSlam and Zayn vs. Nakamura at Takeover: Dallas.

for the record, he didn't give a rating to Kendrick/Ibushi due to it being significantly edited in order to make broadcast. During the original taping, Ibushi was initially counted out with Regal coming out to re-start the match. This was 'fixed' in post-production.

I need to do some re-watching but of that list my personal favorite was Cedric vs. Ibushi. A big star making performance for Cedric. That guy could be a big star if WWE plays it right.

Zayn/Nakamura lost some of its initial impact for me, because it tells no story beyond "yo, let's see who's better in the ring!". Still an excellent match, though.
I voted for DIY/Revival II and Ibushi/Alexander.

Cena vs Styles at SummerSlam was the cap to a good story.

I'd still go for Zayn/Nakamura and Zayn/Owens as the top two, mostly because I forgot to watch DIY/Revival 2.
Cena/Styles at Summerslam was trash compared to MITB tbh.

Of his choices, my top two are DIY/Revival in Toronto and Owens/Zayn at Battleground, in that order.
