Especially bringing up Dustin's participation in it. Not that that negates Dustin's feelings, if he's fine with it he's fine with it. It is his dad. But that said, Cody and Dustin are both Dusty's sons and independent people. One's acceptance or unhappiness with the use of it isn't validated or nullified by the other. It's like when people become super venomous when choosing sides between Bret Hart and Martha Hart over Owen's death. Both lost a loved one, one a brother and one a husband. It's not any of our places to dictate how one or the other should feel. Even then, the same problem is less "Cody having some issues with that", if that was the case it'd be one thing. The real problem seems to be more with how much equal things Cody himself uses for Dusty on the indies or in his own gimmicks, and how he uses it far more than Goldust does (with this being one of the first times since Dusty died Goldust used him in anything, and it was mostly in the way of BAYLEY using Dusty to show how much he taught her out of respect, not Goldust doing it.) It'd be one thing if it was him being raw about it, but this just reeked of Cody being just as carny as WWE and saying "No no no, exploiting Dusty is MY gimmick, NOT YOURS! I'm the one who gets to be Dusty's son, I'm the one who gets to be Dusty's legacy, Not Bayley or not any of the NXT alumni and not even Dustin!" It's. His. Dad. Even if that were the case, he'd have a right to feel that way.

Cody might have a right to feel that way, but if that WERE the case, Cody is doing some carny bullshit to his own brother just to say "No, you don't GET to be Dad's son. Only I may be Dusty Rhodes's legacy in pro wrestling!"

See, I'm not getting the defense of Cody by saying since Dustin had issues with Dusty in the past, Cody is a better choice of defending Dusty's legacy. They are both his sons equally. We don't know who was closer to Dusty in real life. He might been closer to his daughter than them. We don't know. Both of their wrestling legacy is connected to Dusty. One isn't more of a guardian of that than the other. It's Cody's right to be offended and others taking his side. Just like it's within Dustin's right to having no issue with it and others feeling the same.

This whole thing seems a bit of a corrupt-a-wish
"You want The Club as amoral, give-no-f***s monsters, right?"
"Oh, of course."
"Well...."

I have no opinion on Cody, Goldust, The Club or this entire angle. My only thought is a bunch of people are complaining about WWE and its methods and practices, but they still watch.

Why is that a bad thing, though? If Goldust chooses not to use his father in his gimmicks (or more likely, told not to by WWE) and Cody wants to, that's his choice. I mean, he does have more of a claim to Dusty's legacy than Bayley or any of the NXT alumni as he actually is family. That, plus Dustin had a much more complicated relationship with his father than Cody did. He even went years without speaking much to him, if I recall. Dustin's marriage to Terri was apparently one of the major reasons, and of course his drug use. I think they still weren't on good terms when they were both working in TNA in 2005 Hell, I know what it's like to have a family with shitty relationships. One of my uncles hadn't spoken to my granddad for years when he died. Didn't have the decency to turn up to the funeral. Everyone else did. Distant cousins, people's husbands and wives, his friends from work, my mum, who'd been divorced from my dad 10 years, another uncle who came over from freaking Tel Aviv for it, but apparently this one son he had barely even cared when he heard. I'm sure Dustin was upset by it, but not nearly as much as Cody was.

I fail to see what's "carny" at all about Cody in all of this.

I fail to see what's "carny" at all about Cody in all of this. Cody's whole gimmick since he's left WWE has been "Dusty Rhodes's son and legacy". If Cody's so broken up and feels just so bad about this when the big mean WWE did this to him to hold him back...well, he certainly showed it by making a big show of just being "Cody" because those assholes in the WWE won't let him be a Rhodes because he's DUSTY RHODES'S SON AND TRUE LEGACY IN THIS BUSINESS OF THE GREAT DUSTY RHODES. He was certainly so raw for it by becoming "The American Nightmare" when he turned heel (something, by the way, he stole from Dustin when he used it first.) And, as said- he was absolutely feeling so terrible when Chris Hero beat him with a big cardboard cutout of Dusty Rhodes's face. And all that's perfectly fair to do. Cody Rhodes is Dusty's son, and it is valid for him to use that to make a name for himself on the indies as a big star. It's all fair enough for him to do that as his grief. ...but then, after ALL OF THIS stuff that Cody Rhodes himself was so fine with on the independent circuit because HE was the one using Dusty's name to get over and doing that, the ONE TIME that Dustin Rhodes has ever brought up Dusty on WWE television since Cody Rhodes left...heck, the one time Dustin even mentioned "Yes, I am Goldust, but I am also Dustin Rhodes, remember"...and brought him up in a completely tasteful, respectful way (really: Put the teddy bear Bayley gave Goldust as itself and not in polka dots and it's the exact same angle)...THEN, suddenly Cody screams bloody murder about it being disrespectful to him and his family and how they don't care (and how 'his own' things don't matter.) That just reeks of carny bullshit- because it does seem less like "Cody Rhodes is broken up over this" and more about "Cody Rhodes is protecting his indy gimmick from the WWE stealing it. We'll ignore the...'Dustin's also Dusty's son' thing, and the 'Cody stole Dustin's 'American Nightmare' nickname', and the 'Cody ripped off Goldust as Stardust'...Dustin's totally stealing Cody's GIMMICK!"

The segment would have been fine if it was just Bayley giving Dustin a gift that related to how much Dusty meant to her.
Then WWE ruined it for cheap heat.

At this point, I just can't wait until Gallows and Anderson's contracts run out. The WWE has ruined those guys.

Bret: Seth Rollins is at fault for that teddy bear getting injured. He's a disgrace.
