It kinda makes sense to do it right now for a couple of reasons:
1. As great as AJ's heel run has been, he's a natural face and the crowd is dying to cheer for him
2. If you're going to do Cena/Undertaker at WM, the crowd is going to be firmly behind 'Taker. You can easily do that match as face vs. face, but why not just go along with how the crowd is ultimately going to react?
And it doesn't even have to be anything close to a full, permanent turn for Cena. You can just have him adopt more heelish tendencies in the way that HBK did prior to his match with Hulk Hogan.
Now, obviously there are issues with this - namely, a lack of a top heel on SD if AJ turns - but I think this is the smarter play long term when it comes to Styles' future.

I think that Cena is just pissed off and "controversial", instead of a true heel

The idea of Cena acting slightly more heelish isn't new for him, it's one of his greatest skills. He straddled the line well in his feuds with Rock and Punk to certain degrees. Going forward to the Rumble, that's not a bad idea.
But I wouldn't do a double turn. Cena has too much upside as a good guy for his fanbase, and I really don't believe AJ is a natural face at all. He's too magnificent an asshole. I wouldn't call him a bland face, he can get crowd support, but it's mostly rooted in appreciation for his skill. He's more dynamic when he's playing a dick.
If they did turn AJ, which I hope they don't anytime soon, Miz is a good candidate for the next top Smackdown heel.

I doubt it just because Cena is still a cash-cow for WWE to my knowledge and I can't see them giving that up.
It might be a way to turn Styles face, maybe he'll take on Bray Wyatt or a still-Wyatted Randy Orton at Mania.
That being said, Cena is definitely acting like a dick and has been for quite a while now. He's not unlikeable in a "he's annoying" way like he used to be, he's actively a big jerkoff right now.
And I don't know why WWE are doing that.

I would say 4-5 years ago was a good time to turn Cena heel, but it seems kind of pointless with him now being a part time wrestler. Although, Hollywood Rock was born in a very similar situation and it would be fun to see. Either way, Cena has an uncanny ability to play heel in a match without fully turning his character.

Yeah, I really thought for a second in his first match against The Rock that he was turning when he signalled for the People's Elbow. Hell, if you believe Chris Hero, he WAS gonna be a heel, to the point he'd even paid a non returnable fee on some new Ric Flair style gear, before Vince changed his mind.

I thought that was after the first Rock match. But yeah, Cena then donated the money to the NXT crew to make their own gear.

If they're doing a DT they set it up brilliantly with the Talking Smack segment when AJ interrupted Cena "apologizing" for the Smack he used to talk about The Rock being a part-timer. AJ is in Cena's position for the 'Once in a Lifetime' feud and really Styles is the one getting the face pops in the feud if the SDLive from Chicago can be used as a gauge.

I already know you're a huge Cena fan, that has been well established.

No he wont, he will never do that.

They should. I thought they would never have a great of an opportunity again after the Cena vs. Rock feud. But Cena becoming Hollywood Cena after preaching for years he'll never go to that route is perfect

Hope not. A Cena heel turn would be a big deal and overshadow AJ by a large margin. A double turn would only work if both guys benefit.

I don't think it'd work. Smackdown would lose their top heel, have a new top heel who would be a part-timer, and AJ would have to compete with Dean and Randy for the top spot, which is fine for Cena because he's an attraction, but which would be more problematic for AJ.
AJ could feud with Miz, and that'd likely be quite good, the two have had excellent matches together, but other than Bray, there wouldn't be a lot of other heels for him to compete against.

I could see it. You have him turn heel then get drafted to Raw post Mania to feud with Reigns over the Universal title. I think a Reigns Owens double turn is more likely.
