Does anyone else do this?
I've seen slowly rebuying a lot of the movies I have on VHS on DVD or Blu-Ray.
I've had tons of people tell me this is a waste of money since I already own the movies.
Thoughts?

I had The Adventures of Ford Fairlane on VHS and eventually got it on DVD as well. Why I just admitted that, I don't know.

Yep, off the top of my head Ghostbusters and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I bought Ghostbusters several times including multiple times on the same format... I mean GB was the first blue ray I ever bought ... and a few years later I got the Ghostbusters 2 pack. and yeah Holy grail I've had on VHS, DVD, and Blu ray

I didn't start actually collecting movies until DVD was more mainstream than VHS. Once blu-ray was introduced, I only re-bought if I found a great deal or if it was a favorite. I also stopped buying on DVD and bought new on blu-ray. I highly doubt I'll ever go digital unless forced because I like having the physical copy on my shelf.

Yup, my movie collection is massive and I'm super proud of it. It's a bitch and a half to pack when moving though.

Depends on the film really. Any new release I'll buy on Blu-ray and if it's something I had on DVD that justifies buying it on Blu, then I'll buy it. Like if it's something like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Jaws etc. However, films that don't really benefit from the upscale to Blu then I'll settle with the DVD.

I buy every single release they put out when it comes to Star Wars. I do the same with Nightmare on Elm Street. I'm slowly trying to buy all of my favorite movies on blu-ray, but it always feels so pointless when I already own the DVD.

Like 10 years ago, I repurchased all my VHS movies on DVD. Then about 5 years ago, I replaced all those with blu Ray.
Now I've given up any physical format. I sold all my blu Rays and just watch things digitally.

yeah, Ones I know I have in 3 formats
- Clockwork Orange: Book - VHS - DVD - Blu ray (Looking for the Laserdisc as that's the only format I don't have it in, I don't know if it had a beta release) - Bond Movies: Dr No - TWINE (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - The Shining (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - Indiana Jones (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - Halloween 1 (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - ANOES 3, 4 & New Nightmare (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - Aladdin (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray) - Lion King (VHS - DVD - Blu Ray)
Others have either been VHS/DVD to Blu Ray or DVD to Blu Ray, And That's not many
For me it's if it warrants a re-buy such as edits (Indiana Jones/Bond), wrong Aspect Ratio (Bond again*) or better picture/sound
* "Diamonds are Forever" was the biggest offender for this, The DVD is abysmal

We have a pretty massive movie collection that got put on hold a year or two ago for financial reasons. Not sure if/when we get going again if we'll make the jump to 4K or not (which is just a bit excessive for our current set up). Still though, at probably around 2,000 movies and shows spread out over different formats, it's hard not to be satisfied with what we have: guyofownage.filmaf.com/owned

I did that with the Crank films, which then caused me to sell the DVD versions. I also did that with the Bad Boys movies and I still haven't done anything with the DVD versions.

Didn't really start buying movies until I had a DVD player... now it has to be something really different or better for me to upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray.

I don't buy a lot of physical movies nowadays, but if it had new features that I felt were worthwhile, I'd consider it, particularly if it was on sale.

I don't like having digital only, so I bought the Veronica Mars movie on digital when it first came out and on DVD when I found it a few months ago. I have Suicide Squad on digital and I plan on buying the DVD as soon as I can afford to. I haven't moved to upgrading my VHS collection to DVD but I may someday.
