Backstage while making his way to his matches? Was he getting death threats? If that's the case then why didn't the escort continue with him to the ring? Was he unpopular backstage, was there a point where he was getting constantly beaten the second he exited the locker room? Well there was a point when the Harris twin were in WCW at the same time.. Don't think I have seen any other wrestler that need such high security like that. Unless it fell into a storyline. I want answers!

They weren't there to protect Goldberg... they were there to protect you from Goldberg

It was to keep other wrestlers out of his way for their own safety while he was backstage ready to kill his opponent.

I always figured it's for much the same reason Triple H took out a hit on him in WWE, that taking Goldberg out would make someone, even outside of the ring, so they wanted to keep backstage assaults out of the equation.
Which, given WCW Backstage Assault's lack of quality, may be for the best.

To make sure he didn't loot the janitor's closet he used as a dressing room.

Why didn't he have any security during his WWE run?

Why didn't he have any security during his WWE run? His aura disappeared long before he showed up in a WWE ring.

I wish it would have been to protect us from his, ahem, wrestling. It did make for good comedy with Jericho and Gillberg mimicking it.

Why didn't he have any security during his WWE run? The WWE liked to take away little things like that away from WCW guys, they wouldn't even let Bagwell keep that stupid hat.

That was WCW's Jewish Mafia, I reckon. (For some reason, Raven was outcast ... maybe because he had The Flock to watch his back.)

I always assumed it was to protect the champ from a nWo backstage assault.

That was the thing that always bugged me... I mean, I know the purpose was to be that he was so dangerous they had to keep close so that he only unleashed his fury upon his opponent. But, that would've only worked if they followed him to the ring as well then immediately corralled him after the match was over to bring him to the back.
