You guys are still forgetting the biggest culprit of this: each and every David Cage/Quantum Dream game. They're getting less interactive the newer the game.

It generally depends on what the game is supposed to be for me, I suppose.
That said, recently the games I've played barely have any cutscenes: FTL, Dwarf Fortress, Cataclysm DDA. The latter two are pretty much open-ended with very little cinematic experience, but I love them all the same. It's one of those games where I can mumble out some sort of narrative as I play.

I think a lot of this also comes from the belief that cutscenes are if not the only way, the ideal way to tell a narrative, which ignores the great amount lore and background story franchises like Fallout or Metroid Prime pulled off. Didn't break the flow, were optional, but they put you into a broader setting very well.

This is definitely a thing among a lot of AAA-type games, but the smaller budget and independent scene has a ton of games with great gameplay and very little in the way of cinematics.
Then again, one of my favorite genres is RPG's, so I've been used to story exposition through non-interactive scenes for decades.

I feel the same way about cutscences as wrestling promos, too often they're stretching 2 minutes worth of meaningful content over 10-15 minutes.
It often feels like you can't play certain games unless you have a few hours to spare. There's no way to know if the next mission will last 10 minutes or 50 so if I have 30 minutes of play-time left often end up thinking it's best not to start anything new.
I've heard that even bloody Pokemon has become part of this trend.

As much as I love the MGS games, I remember thinking that the cutscene that went on between the fight against the Metal Gear Ray models and the fight against Solidus was just ridiculous. Hell, there was a save point in the middle. I remember looking at my VCR clock way back when and was all "When will this part end?" At least in MGS4 you had the ability to pause in the middle of a cutscene. Then again, you also had The Getaway which had cutscenes that were not skippable unless you had already completed the mission and replayed it. Theres a special place in hell for the ones that won't let you skip

Nothing hurts quite like watching an inescapable movie over and over and over and over again.

One of the big reasons I don't play new games anymore.
It's funny that MGS was one of my favorite games and I loved the things it was able to accomplish, yet it helped games go in what I consider the wrong direction.
Hell, I even hate the graphics of new games. They look so f***ing gritty that it's boring to look at.
But hey... 'realism'

As much as I love video games, lately I have been playing old ones for the PS2. I know that cutscenes are in a lot of those games, but we don't have too many of them (Save for MGS2 and 3). I also have been wanting to play old school shooters like Metal Slug lately, just nothing but gameplay.

Sports games do this a lot as well. It seems they care more about the graphics and making it look as real as possible over having a decent game, or any new ideas, or hell, having a decent create-a-team mode (Madden, NHL, looking at you).
Hell, I've gone back to playing Fire Pro Returns on PS2 over the WWE games.

As a whole, I do like the larger focus on cinematic storytelling in video games. As long as you're telling an interesting story that keeps me invested, it's all good.

Honestly, I'd rather have a genuine extended cutscene than a QTE extended cutscene that is popular now.
But I will second the statement that games are so diverse now that you can find anything you might want in them, thanks to the rise of the indie market.

I find it weird in a time when lots of cutscenes are the norm that FFXV had the problem of NOT having enough cutscenes to explain shit.
