Cowboy Bebop -- One of Yoko Kanno's best works ever. Attack on Titan (First Intro) -- It just rocks pure and simple. Excel Saga -- I like this one for the fact that the lyrics were literally written on the train ride to the recording session, random just like the source material. Dragon Ball Z (First Intro) -- Cha La Head Cha La is pretty much the gold standard for late 80's/early 90's anime themes. (Fun fact: The vocalist for this theme is the voice of the Game Driver on Kamen Rider Ex-Aid.) Tiger Mask W -- Great reworking of the classic 70's theme, only slightly outclassed by it's awesome end theme.

I don't watch much anime anymore, but one intro from the past I enjoy:
While I do love the classic Sailor Moon intros, I feel the first Crystal opening had a great energy to it and enjoy it.
Also, no hate for original Dragon Ball's theme or DBZ's first...but I think this may be my favorite DB intro (and it's only been used 3 eps thus far!)

Oh, good, Watamote got mentioned so I don't need to link to that one.
And one recent one I've been big into...
Wonder if it's a coincidence that both of them are MASSIVELY misleading about what you're in for with the show. Death Parade in particular I'm hardpressed to think of a single bigger lie of an opening that I've ever seen. It's the perkiest, most upbeat and goofy opening ever for an immediately bleak, depressing show that even when it does let up is sure to come back around later to make it worse.

One of my favorite songs used in an anime opening.

I'm of the belief that 'guren no yumiya' is one of the major reasons why Attack on Titan made a successful crossover. You're baited in with this operatic pitch and the image of a giant, then the whole gig just shifts with the intro and you're all "well, I guess we're at war, then."
