Such a awesome movie. To my surprise the movie was actually a bomb. If it came out today I wonder if it would have done better.
Did anyone have the trading cards?

It was alright.
Part of the problem was that it repeated itself so many times. You had all these big stars in this movie and scene after scene would see their fate play out in the exact same way.
I thought for what it was, it didn't carry enough silly or dark humor to amount to much.
The cards on the other hand were awesome. I remember I had one where a Martian was putting JFK in a headlock. Still, I prefer the Dinosaurs Attack cards, which is what Burton initially wanted to adapt.

I enjoyed the hell of out it for its batshit crazy tone, and for the fact that Tom Jones is a major character who actually survives.
Speaking of which, has any major Hollywood movie ever had such a large body count of big-name stars?

Speaking of which, has any major Hollywood movie ever had such a large body count of big-name stars? The Ocean's 11, 12, & 13 movies? Usually all-star cast movies flop. But they've rebounded. My favorite story from the movie is that Jack Nicholson wanted to play ALL the parts. Pull an Eddie Murphy.

Off the top of my head Jack Nicholson (twice), Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Jack Black, Martin Short, Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lisa Marie, Christina Applegate, Paul Winfield, and Joe Don Baker all bite the dust. I'm probably forgetting a few as well.

When did Applegate get killed? She was just Black's girlfriend.

IIRC after Jack Black gets killed she's banging in a trailer with some other dude and the Martians are spying on them, and then the whole trailer park goes up in flames. I haven't seen the movie since 2000 so I may be misremembering.

Is that the same one as the single release?

Is that the same one as the single release? Same. To the best of my knowledge there has only ever been one HD transfer of Mars Attacks, coming from the same master copy used for the DVD release. My guess is because it bombed there's no real incentive to do a proper master for the HD release. Maybe if it ever gets a 4K release...

Yeah from what I read the transfer is terrible and no special features at all.
In 2017 I can't waste my money even if I like the movie

Utterly hated it. Didn't help that my parents insisted it was a great movie for kids and made me watch it repeatedly. Gave it me plenty of nightmares.

It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, nor as it should have been. However, I've always enjoyed it as Tom Jones saves the world. This is enough for me to consider it awesome.
