I think the thing that annoys me the most about the Nu Metal/Rap Rock stuff of the early 2000's (and it annoyed me then as well), as it seemed to be a major angry male backlash against the female rock movement of the 90's (From Alanis to Lilith Fair). I mean, one only need look at how people acted at WOODSTOCK 94 versus just five years later, when there seemed to be an unnecessary rage that needed to be expressed by testosterone filled white dudes that wasn't there in 94. I don't blame the artists specifically for this, but the fans of these bands definitely seemed like those striking back against some imagined persecution.

Wearing short sleeved shirts over long sleeved ones. Also, popped collars. Truly, a trash decade style-wise. One of the great tragedies of our generation. She was obscenely hot at one point, and now.....ugh.

I know it's been beaten into the ground, but Avatar. Every time it's on now I have no desire to watch it. That was outdated almost immediately after it was out of theaters. You know what's funny about Avatar is that I had recently checked out a "Facebook memory" post, which was something I posted years ago, about having seen that film and I said that it was awesome. I will say that I have yet to see it a see it a second time and the main things that I remember were the funeral scene for Sigourney Weaver's character and parts of the final battle sequence. That is basically it. Bear this in mind, this was seven years ago when I saw it. I really don't want to sound nostalgic, but as a longtime hip-hop fan, I remember having knocked then-current rap but then I hear some of the modern rap of today and I sometimes think that the rap back then doesn't sound so bad, at least in contrast. For my hip-hop blog, I had done a special on the Murder Inc compilations and some of the stuff still holds up now, and this was in the early-2000's. I remember being one of those who bashed Soulja Boy Tell'em back in the day, but then you have guys like Future or Ty Dolla Sign. Then again, I don't really hate modern rap, at least not all of it. As for the topic at hand, somebody had mentioned homophobia in music, it didn't help that guys like 50 Cent or DMX had made some references to that in songs. This is coming from a guy who is a DMX fan, by the way. The "adult" cartoons from the era. Some still hold up like Venture Brothers and early Aqua Teen, but a lot of them (Stroker and Hoop, Gary the Rat, later ATHF, even early American Dad) are cringeworthy now. The only one of those shows that I would watch is American Dad, but ever since they moved to TBS, they really want all out with the vulgarity. It is like bordering on South Park-level of crudeness. Then again, you also had failed shows like Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon *shudder* and Stripperella, which I had only seen maybe one or two episodes of.

ShaolinHandLock For me it's the music of my angsty teenage years. Most of that music brings back shit for me that's better left in the past. Fair enough, although, I've stated this in the past and that's that I don't understand the whole 'teenage angst' thing, since I wasn't 'angsty' as a teenager. And if there were 'angsty' teens around when I was in high-school, I certainly didn't notice them. I said this in another thread not too long ago, but I seriously don't understand the hatred that Nu-metal gets...and as I said before in that thread, while I don't really listen to it anymore, I don't see anything wrong with it and the retroactive hatred baffles me. So yeah, I disagree. I think there's definitely some good nu-metal, it's silly to pretend like it was all horrible. A lot of bands lumped into that (Korn, Static-X, Slipknot, System of a Down, Sevendust, Deftones, etc) still hold up today. But for every "Toxicity", there's an album like Flaw's "Through the Eyes" to really remind you that there was A LOT of shit. So much of it was just poorly written music with laughable, cringe-inducing lyrics. It was the ultimate "f*** YOU, MOM! I WANT MY ALLOWANCE NOW!" genre. Did I listen to it in middle school/high school? Absolutely. But so little of it holds up once you get beyond the nostalgia of it all. Well I kind of disagree about them having 'cringe-inducing' lyrics, simply based on that the likes of Limp Bizkit never really had great lyricism even back then...that, and that it's not the type of thing I ever listened to for the lyrical content anyway. I mean, songs like 'Rollin' by Limp Bizkit have dumb lyrics when you actually look at them, but whenever I listened to it I didn't care, I just thought it was a fun/catchy song. I think the thing that annoys me the most about the Nu Metal/Rap Rock stuff of the early 2000's (and it annoyed me then as well), as it seemed to be a major angry male backlash against the female rock movement of the 90's (From Alanis to Lilith Fair). You forgot to mention that the fans in attendance at Woodstock '99 were sweltering in heat without proper working toilets or cheap water.

Havent seen any of the TBS-era American Dad episodes, didnt know it turned into a South Park clone. Sad, as after a slow start it started getting really good in the second season.

It is not that bad, but they have upped on the language and some of the crude humor. At least it's not on the level of Drawn Together, when they just went all out on the crudeness and shock factor just because.

A lot of Eminem's stuff. Some of it like Stan and Cleaning Out My Closet still holds up, but there's also a lot of now-unlistenable stuff on his albums (at least the ones he put out in the 2000s, I haven't heard enough of his more recent stuff, though I do like what I've heard).

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I couldn't sit through those movies again if I was paid to. Some movies just don't hold up for repeat viewing.

A lot of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox libraries really don't hold up nowadays. Nowhere near the level of PS1-era games, but same general problem of the technology not being quite there to fully accomplish what the developers were pushing for. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I couldn't sit through those movies again if I was paid to. Some movies just don't hold up for repeat viewing. I think those three movies are just about the only fantasy movies in the last 30 years that still hold up, and especially when compared to the litany of fantasy movies that followed trying to jump on the bandwagon.

How about complaining about Emos? Come on man, nowadays it'll about Hipsters. And even that's going out of style and being replaced by Millenials. Get with it. Yes. I say this as a huge Linkin Park fan. I was kinda sad when i realized I'd grown out of listening to them. Same here, although I still say LP specifically gets an unfair rap. I know it's been beaten into the ground, but Avatar. Every time it's on now I have no desire to watch it. That seems to be a feature of Cameron's movies that aren't Terminator or Aliens. When they come out, people go "Oh my God! This is so incredibly groundbreaking!" and a couple laters, it's "Urgh, not that old rubbish again". That was outdated almost immediately after it was out of theaters. And yet it still remains the highest grossing movie of all time. Then again, that's with inflated ticket prices for 3D screenings. You owe me a new screen because seeing this picture made me instinctively punch it. Wearing short sleeved shirts over long sleeved ones. Oh God, forgot about that. And on a similar note: mini-skirts over pants. Yeah, that one didn't last long and there's a godd f'ing reason for that. Multiple good f'ing reasons, in fact. I think the thing that annoys me the most about the Nu Metal/Rap Rock stuff of the early 2000's (and it annoyed me then as well), as it seemed to be a major angry male backlash against the female rock movement of the 90's (From Alanis to Lilith Fair). Did you come up with this theory on your own, or did you get it from somewhere else? Yeah, I've got to say, I'm not sure where that came from or what it's based on. Especially since I recall a significant amount of both the artists and the fandom of the genre being women, so if it was supposed to be an anti-feminist thing, it was piss-poor at it.
