This is a little "out there," but I highly suggest The Canterbury Tales. It's a lot of fun, especially if you like a good fart joke. (Lord knows Chaucer did.) My personal favorite is the Miller's Tale - think Dale Gribble.
And four reasons to check out Back to Methuselah by George Bernard Shaw:
1. It's sci-fi from a man who really didn't do much sci-fi. 2. It's not a novel. It's actually a play designed to be read. The unique format adds to the story. 3. It's batshit insane. Case in point: Shaw claims in the preface that natural selection was cooked up by the Pope and Charles Darwin to discredit the "real truth," Lamarckism. (Lamarckism in a nutshell: The only reason why we don't have three eyes is because we didn't want it bad enough.) It all goes downhill from there. 4. Two words: Boat sex.
