Yeah, this is bullshit PR to try and justify awful booking. I'm not going to criticize HHH as he's not going to come out and say "Yeah, we're f***ing up", but they can't honestly expect people to buy this. Hulk Hogan didn't need these excuses, Steve Austin didn't need them, Rock, Mick Foley, Undertaker, Kane, Daniel Bryan, none of these guys had problems getting the right reactions during face runs. Wrestling as a form of storytelling hasn't changed; it's when you fail to create likeable/hateable characters that you see reactions like this and they've convinced themselves that because John Cena, a guy who had a decade of the same issues Roman's going through, sold a lot of merchandise, it's okay to do the same things. I agree with your point, but maybe a bad example there.

They should put me out there by this logic. I'd stink up the place in the ring and cut horrible promos due to no experience. Think of all the boos when I cut long bad promos and then wrestled for 20 minutes! Future Wrestlemania main eventer right here.

WWE: We book for families and to put smiles on kids' faces. We like to keep things simple.
Also WWE: Maybe the way everyone boos our top face despite our efforts otherwise is what we ACTUALLY wanted to do, eh? Eeeeeeh? *taps head with finger and nods* Think about THAT.

But even there, they took his negative face reaction and turned it into something when he went from Rocky Maivia to The Rock. What we're getting with Roman is basically what would've happened had they not done that.

To pedantically get into what his actual issue is here, its that he's equivocating with the word "heel," which HHH is using to mean 'person fans don't like' but the fans are using 'person presented as a good guy.'

That ain't how the shit works. You gotta book him as a heel.
Don't do this quasi shit like y'all did with Cena. Roman's getting way more boos. Many more people see through the bullshit this time. Shit or get off the pot, nimrods.

To say Roman sells tickets is misleading because the WWE would sell tickets regardless because they're the WWE, not because of Roman Reigns. Dude's not popping the box office any more than it already would have.

Doesn't surprise me. I figured that they don't care about whether people boo or cheer, as long as they pay to do it. They are content to just rehash Cena.

I doubt it was the intention, but I think they also know if they had him turn heel overtly, he'd get cheered for it, probably, meaning that regardless, they don't really get the intended result.

For the people who think Vince is a delusional F***wit over Reigns, I think this just cemented HHH is even more so...

No, he's not a heel if you're writing him as the hero of his story. I agree with Trips on some things here, but the most interesting thing I read wasn't posted with this where H said "People are gonna watch Roman v Taker and say 'I don't want to see that match!' and it makes me think 'Really? Because you were pretty loud the night they had that face to face staredown'".
I do like the whole RAW and SmackDown are pop and NXT and 205 Live are alternative though. Didn't think of it like that.

I'd like to hear his justification for his wife's invincibility as a character.

I'd like to hear his justification for his wife's invincibility as a character. "I'd like to continue not sleeping on the couch and having regular sex, so I'm gonna ignore the hell out of the question."

It worked with Cena because he had legions of child supporters and more casual fans. Reigns isn't divided, he's hated.
Admit that your project is a failure already.

The fact that the posters in this thread are reacting the way they are shows that Triple H is right. Reigns is now a heel, but because of the era we're in (which is more about insider knowledge, backstage politics and real life drama than kayfabe) the best way to present him as such is to push him as this babyface character. Obviously this wasn't the original intent, but just like the storyline with Bryan as the B+ player the WWE is capitalizing and running with it.

WWE has quite a few likeable babyfaces. Why they continue to push one that is getting booed as the top one is what is so frustrating.

These arguments would be better if this booking style wasn't causing them to hemorrhage viewers. Even using FAN as a barameter, the thread for the Wrestlemania Go Home Raw didn't even get to 100 pages. People are not as interested and it's in part because fans are booing your main guy and yet the entire presentation of that show acts like he's the good guy. You've essentially presented THE FANS as the heel. Who wants to watch a show where YOU are the heel?
