Does WWE really not get it? Turn Roman heel for a year or two. Let fans get behind his heel persona, then, when he turns face again, he can be everything you wanted for him. Nobody is saying he has to be a bad guy FOREVER. But look at how well-received so many face-turns have been. Do it with Roman. Rip the damn band-aid off.

I don't give a single f*** for this, "The company likes the guy and pushes him as a face, but people hate him" bullshit. It's not fun to watch. Roman needs to be a heel, get over your smug shit, Hunter. HHH really is the epitome of the "That was my plan the entire time" guy. Same with his wife claiming that the Divas Revolution was always what she had planned, and not that four women got really over with the crowd and became good friends.

I like that Metallica and Jay-Z are part of obscure sub-genres to him.

It also reminds me whenever NXT is hot and had a successful Takeover HHH congratulates himself on his booking genius and listening to what the audience wants. When NXT Takeover San Antonio was dissapointing and TV hasn't been good it's the weak talents fault and we're rebuilding dammit

Apparently, Trips needs a refresher course in Pro Wrestling 101. Unfortunately, Vince burned the only remaining copy in that trash bin he uses to burn money in.

Pushing him as a face gets a heel reaction. If they made him a heel, a good portion of the Internet would cheer.

If 70% think he is a heel, and then you book him vs a heel, doesn't that hurt the guy he is booked against since they are not getting the heel heat they need?

HHH's remarks are the equivalent of someone taking a stumble, recovering in spite of themselves, then saying, "Oh, I meant to do that."
It is possible to have a charismatic heel and still call them out for the evil they do; Randy Savage was one such beast. Jake Roberts was another. Few heels do actual, absolutist evil anymore, though - primarily because there is no open enforcement of the rules to speak of anymore. Babyfaces could be boring, on some level, but they were charismatic in that they reflected and modeled the better parts of the fans themselves and did some measure what the fans wish they could do to the heels while still being essentially "good."
The interview is as close as we may ever get to an admission of what we as fans have suspected - that WWE has had no real interest in storytelling for some time, and that their primary interest is in getting fans to buy merch and subscriptions based on who they can present as "cool" in front of a crowd. It's like the Toronto Maple Leafs organization - there's no incentive for the team to win if the owners are making enough on merch that they feel no need to invest in putting together a team good enough to win the Stanley Cup.

Pushing him as a face gets a heel reaction. If they made him a heel, a good portion of the Internet would cheer. Turning him heel and winning over much of the crowd who are currently booing him is the logical direction he needs to go. It worked with his cousin. Pushing him as a face and getting a heel reaction just makes him a failed face, no matter how they try to spin it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Triple H and his wife do not understand how heels work. There is more to being a heel than getting booed. The purpose of a heel is to make the face look like a star, to tell a story where the face is imperilled but fights back to win and look like a star at the end when their hand is raised in triumph, if the heel is protected more than the face that basic story doesn't work. Feuding with Triple H or Roman Reigns, you go up against a heel who is booked and protected like the face and win or lose, their opponent doesn't come out with the same momentum they had going in, having lost a little of their shine in the eyes of the fans.
If being booed was all it took to be a great heel, the bottom wouldn't have fallen out of WCW in 1998 after years of being booked around the heavily protected Hulk Hogan at the expense of all faces.

Yeah, "Booing" isn't really the only thing that makes a heel.
The point is you boo them becuase you want to see the face beat them... not out of I don't want to see this guy period.
I'm sure HHH knows that and was just being a snarky ass here... because again he's legitimately one of the owners he's not going to come out and flat out say "yeah we're f***ing up" especially since it's not like he can do anything if this is what Vince wants to do with him.

The fact that the posters in this thread are reacting the way they are shows that Triple H is right. Reigns is now a heel, but because of the era we're in (which is more about insider knowledge, backstage politics and real life drama than kayfabe) the best way to present him as such is to push him as this babyface character. Obviously this wasn't the original intent, but just like the storyline with Bryan as the B+ player the WWE is capitalizing and running with it. In theory, it makes sense. The problem is that people boo Reigns not because of Russo logic, but because people don't like the product. Of course, people will still pay money, but not the megabucks of the past. It's simple economics.

That's the thing to keep in mind when HHH says things like this. He still works for Vince and, while he seems to be taking over more of the day-to-day stuff, this is still Vince's company. There's a reason why NXT has the reputation for being a better booked show than Raw.

Pushing him as a face and getting a heel reaction just makes him a failed face, no matter how they try to spin it. Hell it's working for his other cousins right now on Smackdown. The Usos turned heel, freshened up their characters and lo and behold a few months later, they're the most over they've been in years. And when they turn back face, they'll be better for it with new characters

By HHH's logic, Sofia Coppola was the true villain in "The Godfather Part III"

I don't know, but reading between the lines, I kind of see Hunter saying, "Friggin' I know this isn't working either, guys, but just hang tight. I'm running NXT and 205, so if you like that, wait it out with me."
The other point I want to raise is, one thing that's always annoyed me about wrestlers/those in the wrestling business is when they throw out the ol' "Oh the fans don't know what they're talking about," or "They don't know what they want." No... it doesn't work like that. The fans absolutely know what they want. They want you to strike while the iron is hot. It's so condescending when they do that nonsense. I'm a grown-ass man and I know what I like and what I think is lame.
I'll never do it. I just won't. I love wrestling and the WWE. But... the only way to hit this company is to boycott. That seems to be the only thing they'll understand. "We got their money!" what a horrible thing to say about your fans. How about, "We try our best to put on the best, well-rounded product we can."
Sheesh.

He's not a heel until commentary starts shitting all over him.
That's how it works in WWE anymore.
