Crayola retiring a color from it's 24 pack for first time

Friday is National Crayon Day -- but at Crayola, it will also be a farewell party.

For the first time in its 100-year history, the company will retire a color from its 24-count box. That's right. They are retiring a color. Erasing it from the color bank. Sending it into the crayon black hole.

Except Crayola isn't saying yet which crayon is getting kicked out, saving the announcement for Friday morning. (We're guessing it's not red, blue or yellow, lest Crayola wants to set off riots around the world. Then again, stranger things have happened.)

My money is on getting rid of Red it's tyranny has lasted for too long!


edit: For clarification the 24 colors currently in the 24 box are

red, yellow, blue, brown, orange, green, violet, black, carnation pink, yellow orange, blue green, red violet, red orange, yellow green, blue violet, white, violet red, dandelion, cerulean, apricot, scarlet, green yellow, indigo and gray

Maybe someone clued them in how useless white crayons are unless you have black construction paper or something.

possibly in the big box but not in the 24 pack.

well, according to the article these are the current colors:

Crayola makes 120 different crayon colors in total. The 24-count box currently features red, yellow, blue, brown, orange, green, violet, black, carnation pink, yellow orange, blue green, red violet, red orange, yellow green, blue violet, white, violet red, dandelion, cerulean, apricot, scarlet, green yellow, indigo and gray. One will be on the chopping block.

from that this I would have to guess blue green or red orange

Excuse me for not rushing out and buying Crayola 24 packs to ensure I will always have whatever color they're dropping.

Yes, though under the name 'chestnut.' It's not in the 24-pack, though. The name Indian Red did not refer to Native Americans, but they changed it due to confusion. Indian red refers to the red laterite soil found in India. The term 'Indian red' as a color goes back to at least 1792, and had nothing to do with Native Americans.

Like Flesh back in the 60's it was renamed.

Though it took them until like 1999 to do that... but it's not in the 24 box.
