I know we have some people here who still own a VCR and buy old VHS tapes. That said, have you ever decided to buy any of the unmarked VHS tapes you see a thrift stores sometimes? If so, ever found anything good on them like old wrestling or rare tv shows/movies?

Not thrift stores, but I've gotten a few from garage/yard sales. It's mostly great for the obscure 80s/90s local ads.

No, but I remember finding a blank CD in a parking lot and bringing it home. It ended up being some 1980s religion class lecture.

Yes, I have. A couple had the entire series Sports Night over the course of a couple of tapes. Another had Japanese soap opera. Another had Japanese....other stuff.
But once..I bought a box of about 15 tapes, they were labeled WC. It was nothing but old episodes of Wrestling Challenge. In order. Damn near two years worth of episodes.

A friend of mine has. I remember we hung out in his garage a long time ago with another friend of ours. It has some 1994 NFL games on Fox. The thing that got me the most were the dated ads on there, as well as the ads for reruns of Roseanne, as my local Fox affiliate used to air reruns on it back then.
I think I should try to find some myself next time I am at Goodwill or something similar.

Grabbed one months back. Had 20 mins of someone's dog. The rest was some late 90s teens goofing off in a electronics store.
Got another that is casino security footage. Seems like they compiled footage to be shown in court.

Yeah, I used to work at a Salvation Army and we were told the same thing. I did manage to snag somebody's bootleg of the Star Wars Holiday Special, though.

Once, yes. And yes, it was porn. Once found porn at an AirBNB house we rented for a bachelor party.

Nope. I had no idea a thrift store would even sell unmarked tapes. You'd run a pretty high risk of selling porn to minors running a business like that.

Every now and again I'll find a mom-and-pop video games store and look through their Atari bin for unlabeled cartridges.
Haven't bought any because I don't need another copy of Pac-Man, ET or Combat

I work at a goodwill, we sadly are told to throw away unmarked VHS and even VHS that arent actual released tapes. Same with the thrift store I worked at. I used to check out the ones we couldn't sell. the most memorable being a tape with a bunch of TGIF shows.

Sometimes. As a tape collector in the 90s and 2000s, always tried to find original broadcasts of things. Cassettes too. One time I found some vague Christmas blank cassettes, and ended up with a partial recording of the '80s version of the WPIX Yule Log and part of an early '80s Z-100 Christmas-only playlist.
/I assume Z100 will only mean something to NY/NJ folk.

Reading this thread makes me glad I grew up in the late 80s / early 90s, and have fond memories of the warbly old VHS's. I remember visiting my grandparents, and going through my grandma's collection of taped off the television shows.
I was talking to a similarly aged co-worker last week, about the tyranny of the VHS tapes, and how it was common to grow up with just one movie in a series or a handful of episodes of a show, because those just happen to be what your family had taped.

My dad used to run the dock at Goodwill. A lot of times things would not be able to go in the store so a lot of it would be sold as salvage to various people. Usually it was the same ones and as a result he got to know a lot of them. One time there were these two women he knew called him and said that they had bought one of those storage lockers (a la Storage Wars) and it turned out to be full of porno tapes and did he know someone who might be interested in them. Sure enough my dad knew someone else who frequently would buy salvage that would want them.
