Wow...JBL has got some serious issues. His internet browsing history agrees.

Whenever anyone stands up to JBL, he gets popped. Call his bluff and you'll have his ass. You never hear stories of him facing up to anyone and coming out of it as a winner. He specialises in sneak attacks and cheap shots. I'd rather punch the shitberg in the face and get fired rather than suffer prolonged bullying all for the sake of keeping my job, which may be a shitty spot anyway. I do find it kind of funny how the stories of JBL getting knocked out by Steve Blackman or Joey Styles punching him in the face (it was disputed as Joey hitting a surprise strong sucker punch and the situation had to be broken up) that JBL must be a pussy. Dude is 6'6 and nearly 300lbs and did make it to the finals at Brawl for All. That's still a pretty big dude who is surrounded by plenty of big and tough dudes who is friends with Vince and Undertaker. It sucks but keep in mind wrestlers are stuck in that viscous cycle they don't want to get fired from the WWE and don't want to work a real job and see friendly veterans being friendly with guys like JBL. Locker rooms can be vicious stupid high school political environments.

Apparently I'm not sensitive enough to adult bullying, because I'm having a hard time feeling bad for Justin. Maybe it's because I've heard negative stuff about him as well, or maybe it's because it feels like a cash-in opportunity. I always have a hard time buying salacious memoirs as it is, because you know the point is to move books. There's the accuser's take, the accused's take, and the truth is somewhere in between. It sucks that that type of behavior still exists. I could have been considered a bully a number of times as a kid, but I can't understand the notion to just constantly act like an asshole to someone as a full-fledged adult. We're still dealing with the leftover attitude from the previous generations ideas of what manhood is and what it means to be "tough". The sooner we get out of that bullshit old school mentality, the better. I just don't understand the idea behind being deliberately hateful. Whether that be with JBL picking on Justin Roberts, or the way we talk about the wrestlers we don't like online. I don't hate JBL or I won't say "f*** you JBL" because he allegedly acts like a dickhead... I say "grow up, JBL. Be cool to one another." Yeah you definitely have to take certain things with a pinch of salt, and choose what you believe has been tweaked to sound better and sell books. I can't imagine JBL holding a whole freakin roster and 2 tour buses hostage until Justin Roberts swapped. Vince: Goddammit why did we stop? Coach driver: JBL's orders, Vince. Justin Roberts has to swap coaches. Vince: Tell him and his god damn snake to hurry the hell up!

I'm usually one for the "two sides" thing, and know some people have put stories out there that are total bullshit. But when it comes to the stuff about JBL, there's too much out there for it to all be false. Maybe some of it is sensationalized, but there's too much out there for him to not be a shitstarter. I'm kinda stunned there never was a run-in between him and Simon Gotch, if the stories on Gotch having a major ego trip are even half true (unless there was some backstage incident I'm missing). That's also not the first times I've heard Regal and Jericho were good eggs. Jericho's MO has always seemed to be if you have a clue about the business and how to conduct yourself, you're to be respected. I've heard stories of him being a jerk, but there's always been a "Yeah, but you DID..." or "But who tells someone..." aspect to it. He seems like a nicer CM Punk; same philosophy but with a decent amount of leeway...unlike Punk had. Ditto to Regal. I've heard very few bad stories about him, especially from once he got clean onwards. Sucks Justin had it so hard. I wonder if Chimel or Lillian had it that tough. Surely Fink didn't...though I'd love to hear some of his stories too from his time. No need to hear two sides, as JBL has admitted to everything, and still genuinely believes it was in good fun. He says it was to toughen people up, but how does forcing someone who has to go to the embassy "toughen" anyone up? Benoit seemed bi-polar. Miz commented on Benoit bullying him at times, and then praising him when no one was looking. That, or Benoit's bullying stuff was just to make him look "cool" in front of everyone else.

People always feel better if they compare themselves with someone they perceive to be inferior, then shout about it. JBL has had loads of chips on his shoulders over the years - that much is obvious - and his way of dealing with it is to belittle others. Some of the tales are more than likely embellished, but there's a common thread and its his attitude. That's not to say it's acceptable or make an excuse for it, but it is a possible explanation.

JBL is completely useless and counter productive to the entire wrestling business.

Cathartic The fact the joey Styles also knocked the f***er out still cracks me up As much as I dislike defending JBL, most retellings have Joey sucker punching him either from behind while a group of wrestlers were hustling JBL away in an attempt to break things up, or from the front while the wrestlers were still holding JBL back from beating him senseless. Not saying JBL didn't have it coming, but it's not as if he squared up to Joey and Joey knocked him down clean.

Benoit strikes me as a guy who was super insecure and would get easily influenced by peer pressure. Apparently he did the same thing with Matt Striker, another hazing target during that period, where he would bully him in front of the other wrestlers and then compliment him when no one was around. It was all done just make himself look better. Even though they were both dicks who had some serious mental issues (obviously the case with Benoit with what he ended up doing), I think his bullying is different from JBL's. JBL just did it because he simply liked doing it, while it seems like Benoit did it so he would look "cool" and get accepted by the other people in the locker room.

At this point I almost feel dirty for having enjoyed JBL's heel run and performance on the JBL and Cole Show.
There are just too many unsettling stories from too many people. Even if only half are true, it feels unfair that he's taken spots (and continues to take a commentary spot) that could be held by someone far less assholish, and far more deserving of the success.

Justin Roberts has to swap coaches. Vince: Tell him and his god damn snake to hurry the hell up! A two hour delay is nothing given his track record. He got away with punching The Blue Meanie as hard as he could to split open his stitches because Meanie called him a bully in an interview, opening up the WWE to the threat of a lawsuit. He bullied Palmer Cannon so badly that he quit after the WWE creative team had spent months building him up as a major heel figure on Smackdown. He made a point of being an arse to Tully Blanchard when he was hired as a road agent, calling him a drug addict, cheater, liar, and a hypocrite who used God to make money in public because of some 20 year old crap. Major WWE names have gone on record about the sexual harassment 'hazing' he put them through, but there's never been any sort of punishment as he's basically bulletproof, he was a senior lockeroom figure and had vince's ear because he gave him stock tips.

Man, Justin tried to sell me this book 3 times at WM weekend (at Wrestlecon, Something to Wrestle With, and JR's Show), I wish I would have bought it. I think the early to mid 2000's is an interesting time to learn about in WWE. For one, there isn't a whole lot of information about it. No definitive book has been written about that time period. Second, it was the transition from the guys like JBL to the guys who are in WWE now who all seem to be buds and work as a team. I will still probably pick this up.

Why always airports? This crossface incident, at least one of the JBL/Styles, JBL/Blackman fights/KOs (depending on who you believe) happened in an airport, there's the plane ride from hell which surely involved them getting rowdy at the airport before boarding sure there's been a few others even Sags backed down from Shamrock when they bumped into each other at an airport as he believed it was a poor choice of venue for a fight which is probably true with the heightened security atmosphere we've had at airports for the past 16 years you'd think tasers would be out asap as soon as they spot a gaggle of drunken man children trying to compensate for not being able to make it in shoot fighting.

After knowing everything about JBL I love rewatching the time Stevie Richards clocked him square on the skull with a chair. But I'll give props to JBL for finishing that match after.

There are plenty of legit tough guys in wrestling history who didn't see the need to bully others. JBL is more of a coward for being backed up by untouchable guys protecting him, and making sure that his victims wouldn't retaliate. He's a 6'6, 300 pound sack of shit. If Joey Styles sucker punched him, he deserved it.

But I always get a chuckle of the internet tough guy stuff saying he should of done this and done that and I would of done this and that like if it was that easy. Especially for a sports announcer who is 100lbs lighter and half a foot smaller than JBL working as a sports announcer where there isn't much of a market to do that as a full time job anywhere else. And when he's done what does he do next in the real world and how does the skills of a announcer transfer to this outside of the world job? And even when there was an alternative like WCW they still elected to hire Michael Buffer who isn't cheap.

JBL is an ass. There are never stories of him f***ing with guys who could obviously beat his ass. It's always smaller guys he assumed were soft. I remember RVD telling a story that the second JBL even sniffed the idea of messing with him, Rob told him he'd lay him the f*** out and JBL never bothered him again.

Alright I'm gonna throw this out and probably get shot down by everyone, but here goes. I feel like Chris Benoit was that guy who gives you shit if he really likes you, but doesn't know how to communicate that. But also, unfortunately, didn't know when to stop, likely for any number of reasons. Not apologizing, but the Benoit stories aren't like the JBL ones. There's ones where he's a terrifying dude, but then there's also Chris calling to check on your dad when he had cancer, etc etc. I know this is all gonna just get shot down because wrestling fans largely only color Benoit in one light, but just throwing that out there. You mean, like a tough love kinda guy? After listening to Brian Kendrick and Paul London talk about him, that is exactly what Benoit sounded like.
