I've had an awful morning that featured missing 2 trains (20 minutes apart) and a bunch of other shitty stuff. I finally get on the train. I look up to see an adorable German Shepherd who looks sooo happy. Because I am tiny, it's practically neck-height for me when sitting down. I walked past him and he started sniffing me. After a shitty morning, that finally made me smile and feel a tiny bit better. I love dogs.

Because we domesticated them. When we change the nature of something, we become responsible for it.

I was watching Breaking Ground earlier today and there was the scene where Tyler Breeze finds the cutest friendliest stray hanging around The Performance Center for hours with no collar. So he calls his girlfriend to check it out and they decided to adopt it. Made my heart melt.

Dogs are always awesome. They don't talk back, dont try to hurt you emotionally or judge you. Just want to play and love you

I got my puppy when I was at the worst point of my depression, from the moment I got him he gave me a warm feeling I didn't think I could even feel at that point of time.
And every morning I see him, i get that same feeling, and I've got no doubt he's been one of the biggest parts of me getting better.
Dogs are brilliant animals, they just sense and get your emotions and know when you a hug or reason to smile, even before you do.

Dogs are the purest thing I've ever seen. We decidedly do not deserve them.

The fact that we're blessed with something as wonderful as the dog proves that humans are worthwhile overall.

We may not deserve dogs, as thousands of years of selective breeding have given them all kinds of nasty genetic flaws.

It's almost like we selectively bred them for thousands of years to fill practical and emotional needs

If it weren't for canines, we wouldn't be here.

Having pets is kinda messed up in my opinion.
People are basically enslaving them for comfort or to entertain others.
One thing that disturbs the most is leaving birds in cages. There have to be some psychological effects as a result from being isolated instead of roaming the earth freely.

While I still have one dog, I've had 3 dogs in my life. My chihuahua was one of the sweetest dogs. He made friends with pretty much anybody, and even took in a stray cat, one night. I wish my time with him was longer. He passed away at 5 years old, from a kidney problem.
We had our terrier for almost 16 years. He was very close to my mom, and he always would sit with me, if I didn't feel good. When our chihuahua passed, he sat next to his ashes, and cried for hours. We got our chiweenie a few months later, and he had someone to play with. This past February, we had to put him down, because he was in a lot of pain, and had dementia. I still have guilt about being part of the decision.
Our chiweenie is very protective of me. Any time I've had a seizure, he stays with me through it, and I've been sick lately, and he sleeps near me, ready to help me.

There have to be some psychological effects as a result from being isolated instead of roaming the earth freely. So if it was up to you, you'd just have every dog around the world roam the streets? That sounds like a terrible idea. Most of them receive far better treatment by living with humans than they would living on the streets.

I have a mini border collie named Moria she's the best dog ever. She actually comes and gets me when the kids wake up.

I think if given the choice, a dog would prefer freedom over imprisonment This is the same mentality that people have when they go into villages and "civilize" other cultures. Animals are meant to live life a certain way. Sure you can argue our lifestyle is why we live longer and are healthier, but I can't agree its in a dogs best interest to spend their lifetime treated as a toddler for the amusement of another creature.

Dogs aren't humans. Their brains work in a completely different way. They don't have the ability to make sensible informed choices. And some dogs can't fend for themselves, similar to the reason why you wouldn't allow a toddler to "be free". It's a nice idea but logistically, allowing all dogs to roam free would be a nightmare.

Fair enough, we obviously have completely different views on the matter so I'll just respect your opinion.
