Honestly E.T. is too easy for this type of list... and I probably wouldn't call it the worst ever unless you are talking impact to the industry.
I mean it sure as hell isn't GOOD but still

ET is not a terrible game. It is a very average game for Atari 2600. If you read the instruction manual ahead of time, which was common practice at the time, the game made sense. 4 year old me understood it completely fine and could pass it. There are way way way worse games on the 2600. If we just go with movie tie in games, the following are all worse: Alien, Halloween and Ghostbusters.

I played it back then and knew what to do at the time too. I would absolutely call it a terrible game.
It was really bad but like I said I wouldn't call it the worst unless you are going by the damage it did to Atari.

In E.T., I keep falling back into the pit that I try to levitate out of, over and over and over and over again. The game has some of the worst controls of any game I've ever played; I can't think of any other game where I can't overcome a staple obstacle due to horrible controls. Floating out of a pit is easy enough. Not automatically falling back into the pit as soon as you release the action button is frustratingly difficult to the point that it seems impossible. With such a simple controller (A 4-way joystick and a single action button), does ET's manual really give instructions for NOT falling back into pits that couldn't be intuitively figured out from simply playing the game?

I don't get the hate for that Rambo game. Rail shooters may be simplistic, but they're every bit as fun to play now as they were in back in the day. For what it is, the game is fun and challenging.
People don't crap on 2D beat-em ups like Streets of Rage and Final fight just because their gameplay is repetitive and simplistic.

The worst of Acclaim rolled into one bad game. I wish people would shit on Acclaim more often. They seem to get a pass.

This is how to do it . It was also on page 8 of the manual as tip 5: www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-et-manual.html#topofpage.
