Naomi should steal Jericho's conspiracy victim gimmick.

So wait, has Orton not defended on a single SD house show since WM? I mean at least he's been active. The whole notion of needing to be physically capable and not injured makes no sense. So it's okay to strip someone of a title for being injured but not okay for someone to be stripped when they simply aren't on shows and not bothering?
The whole 30 day rule is a great way to get the belt off Lesnar without him jobbing. Then he can eventually come back and feud with the new champion over who the real champ is.

Maybe Orton can get away with it because he DOES have a title match lined up. It's not his fault he's not been booked to defend it sooner. Brock on the other hand must have just gone back to his home planet. Actually they try to enforce it with Brock. Vince: "Okay Brock Lesnar it's been 30 days you need to relinquish your title." Brock: "Okay sure I'll relinquish it but you have to come here to get it. I'm located 85km SE of Maryfield, Saskastchewan. Now you have to book a flight to Winnipeg you could do Regina but there will be a lot lot more layovers that I don't recommend. When you leave Winnipeg you must travel 334km east to Maryfield. I recommend stopping by at Uncle Elmers diner the best and only diner in town and have some kobasa. Now when you're done that you must travel about 13km south down Range Road 764 when and immediately turn left when you see the comma looking quarry but be careful because it's farming season so you might miss it, now travel about 21 mins doing exactly 80km/h when you encounter a tree stump that looks like a keyhole. Stop and look right and you see a scarecrow. Drive towards it and ignore the muddy and steep conditions. Oh did I mention you must drive a 4x4 offroading vehicle preferably lifted for some mudding fun because it's the only vehicle that can reach my place and that's what real men drive. Now when you're done that...." Vince: "Awww f*** it just show up at Great Balls of Fire okay?" *hangs up*

They both recently had successful title defenses in Rio.

It doesn't count unless it's on TV. That rule they tend to enforce more than the 30 day rule I have always thought the house shows was there way around it in other instances of this happening. Not with Lesnar of course. I guess that could have just been something I made up in my head and turned to canon. Sometimes they would bring up house shows for a title switch if the titleholder got hurt. Going further back, sometimes titles would bounce back and forth between champs between tv tapings

No offense, but I hate people that talk about the 30 day rule. It's not a real rule. Wrestling is scripted. To be fair here, it's not like most works of fiction, or mainstream fiction, hasn't had an established set of rules about how things work in a respective universe or continuity to make for storylines that relate to how that all work and click together in a way to make audiences familiar with how it works on this show. Heck, I've said for ages that the problem with WWE is that everything's so fast and loose, nothing really means very much. Even those unwritten rules referees get told about (tag ropes being a BIG example) that have been around for so long and never actually explained to the audience that when a DQ finish is done based on them, they either assume the audience already knows about them or they literally ignore it for some other story thread they just made up.

Not having the champion defend the title in 30 days is just lazy writing. Why wasn't the House of Horrors for the title in kayfabe? The Superstar shakeup and not having both "A" belts on Raw That is the reason but it still makes no sense. Bray Wyatt was entitled to a rematch for the belt, and Jericho vs Owens for the US title was handled in such a way that he US Title would be on Smackdown, simply by adding that stipulation. Given they have backed themselves into the rematch clause corner, it was very lazy wiriting. And no idea how they are explaining how Brock is exempt from the rule, the lack of consistency is pretty poor and these things should be thought of.

This. Road Runner follows more unbreakable rules than WWE.

No offense, but I hate people that talk about the 30 day rule. It's not a real rule. Wrestling is scripted. There is no rule book. They only use it for storylines. Even if a wrestler is injured, it's better to use the 30 day rule & take the belt off of them to move the story along. In the case of Naomi, there was a better story in taking the title off of her and having her win the title she never lost in her hometown crowd at WrestleMania. Dean Ambrose also hasn't defended his title since Mania, so he's in the same book as Lesnar & Orton. And before Mania, Ambrose last defended his title on January 24, which is more than 30 days from April 2. They are not going to strip Lesnar of the Universal Title. There's no point in the story. It's better to build up his challengers until he wants to come back and face them. Of course it's not a real rule like a boxing/MMA/whatever rule is, but what about consistency in storytelling? I get what you're saying, but just introducing or conveniently forgetting rules as and when it suits (unless it's part of a storyline where someone's being a dick about enforcing rules) is crap continuity. We're supposed to, for the sake of this fictional universe, at least pretend we believe in this stuff as if it were a real sport, so it makes sense that (however stupid they are) there would be a proper set of rules that all the characters live and work by. Making stuff up on the fly to explain plot holes makes them look like shitty writers. Which they are. But they shouldn't be. I know, I know, it's WWE, what do I expect, but WWE's inconsistent writing is one of the things that turns me off, they could get it right, they just don't bother to try.

Doesn't Orton probably defend the belt on the house show loop? It doesn't count unless it's on TV. That rule they tend to enforce more than the 30 day rule I disagree and never heard this statement before Orton did defend it on house shows one or two weeks ago in 3 way dances against AJ and Corbin Kayfabe: according to Heyman in an official WWE interview, Brock has a special clause in his contract where the 30 day rule doesn't apply (from his 2014/15 reign) If you start ignoring all rules and regulations in this fake sport, nothing will matter

Like rematch clauses, they're a lazy crutch that only exists when it's convenient.

I nominate one of the mods to go to Bork's house and inform him that he's being stripped of the title. "Whatever. I've got my money."

If that was the case, then we wouldn't be having this discussion at all. If the commentary said something about it I didn't hear it, and I do tend to listen to them (even JBL, who kisses Orton's ass so hard he would use that point on tv out of any of them), I don't think this thread would exist.

No offense but I hate it when people like yourself expect consistency in other scripted media such as tv shows, theatre, books, movies and video games and when it comes to wrestling you act all 'its fake dude, nothing matters in terms of 'rules of the universe'. Even if you see it as a fake scripted athletic contest, how does that make it any less a television entertainment show? Star trek fans are allowed to get annoyed over breaking of consistent rules, but wrestling isn't, because unlike an action movie where you switch your brain off for the action but still expect consistency within the storyline and established rules, wrestling is somehow a Saturday night sketch with vastly different logic rules taking place at any one time. Hey maybe next week we can ditch the referees or say two count pinfall is now active. I'm sure I've seen people who upvoted your comment get annoyed over the royal rumble not always meaning a title shot at WrestleMania, even when they do justify it with a storyline, so please don't act all exasperated like everyone is unreasonable when we get no justification about the 30 day rule in effect or not

I imagine the rule actually functions like this - champions must be able to defend their title within thirty days notice. Brock and Randy are both able to do so. They just aren't being asked to.

It's one of the many bullshit crutches the company employs when they are lazy.
Hell, Edge kept the title through an injury by subbing in Khali. It was annoying as hell, but it worked.

I get your points segaz & ssdrivin. You make excellent points and I agree with them. You're right. By WWE ignoring their so-called rule, it makes them look like idiots and throws continuity & logic out the window. I need to just relax and not let anything bother me.
