What's your opinion on him? Specifically this manager persona of his, not previous gimmicks of Robert Fuller
First saw him in 1994 WCW, never understood what was supposed to be the upside of his character, and this never changed.
Never liked his cliche promo style, the overbearing southerness, the racial undertones, brutal feud/marriage story with Sherri...why would Austin, a good talker at that point, need this guy to get over (started in late 93 after Hollywood Blondes breakup)?
His cup-of-coffee as Tennessee Lee in WWF wasn't noteworthy imo

The pairing with Austin I didn't get either, they were only paired up for about 6 months before Austin was back on his own.
As for him as a manager, I didn't mind him too much.

I loved Parker and his run as Lee made me tolerate Jeff Jarrett and continued the trend of Jarrett's managers overshadowing him in every way. Loved him in wcw with Bunkhouse Buck and loved their theme music. I never understood why he didn't get something done about his profuse sweating.

If anyone ever calls Vince behind the times, I think WCW doing an Elvis' manager gimmick in 1995 proves it could always be worse.
Not even an Elvis gimmick, an Elvis' manager gimmick.
Can't wait for someone in TNA to be doing a Dr Luke gimmick in 2059

I got that he was supposed to be a Southern gentleman with his gimmick, but it seemed like he was on TV each week. Maybe that was only here in the UK, but he or one of his stable seemed to be main eventing weekly.

I loved Robert Fuller's run as Colonel Robert Parker. It was basically him behaving like a gentile Southern dandy which was funny to long time fans in the South who knew him and his kin as heinous roughnecks. Especially was a trip when Jimmy Golden got rebranded as Bunkhouse Buck. Parker played his role to the hilt.

Fun Fact: He was Madusa's first opponent on PPV (Uncensored '96) after she jumped to Nitro and did that trashcan deal. He beat her in three minutes and stripped her down to her bra and panties.

I'm thinking where the behind the scenes people came from, there were lots of guys who acted like Colonel Parker in the south. So I guess it was one of those things that made sense to a small group of people. To the crowd out of the south maybe they didn't understand. I thought he was pretty good for the time. There weren't a lot, if any, other managers in WCW so being the only one you have to have some talent. He always seemed to have one of his guys in a relatively high profile feud for a while. He even main evented the Fall Brawl 1994. By late 1996/early 1997 his time was definitely ending. The n w o was taking over and he really didn't fit in anymore and he left around that time period. I'm guessing by 1995 or so he was just happy to be getting a big paycheck without putting his body too much on the line. I guess to the fans that only know him from that time period don't know his star status earlier in his life.

He played his role well. I heard he opened a jump rope academy.

A lot of his WCW stuff was lost on me, but I thought the Tennessee Lee role was perfect for turning Aztec Jeff Jarrett back into Double J -- windbag Southern promoter breathlessly introducing tacky Nashville "star."
Funny how those gimmicks originated in totally separate places but were made for each other.

Seemed really outdated even back then.

Seemed really outdated even back then. A lot of WCW gimmicks were to be honest. A disco dancer. A wrestling mummy/yeti/giant ninja. The Zodiac. Sweet baby jeebus, the Zodiac. Par for the course as far as WCW goes.

I'm pretty sure she beat him up after the match, and I could be wrong but I think he won because of interference from Dick Slater. I don't think she was stripped but I'd have to watch it again.

I enjoyed the Colonel Parker character, but I liked him better as "The Tennessee Stud" Robert Fuller. He had the same boisterous promo style but would take it in different directions, even getting heat in Texas by blaming them for the death of Davey Crockett and claiming that the Tennessee Stud was coming for payback.

Parker looks good in that recent photo. I remember Jesse Ventura really putting him over when he was walking to the ring at Slamboree 1994. Stud Stable was definitely light years ahead of the Dungeon of Doom in terms or gimmick and talent. I think if Hogan had been facing Stud Stable we'd remember that 1995 WCW period a little better.
