As pessimistic as this may come across, I don't really expect us to be around in 500 years, much less 10,000. We're going to end up doing some extremely stupid things before then that, combined with enough of the various chain reactions we've already set into motion, will make sure of it. Eh without getting too far into it, with the technology we have right now, I don't see any way that we could flat out wipe out humanity. There's plenty of fail-safes in place of every hierarchy and even with one of today's super weapons I can't see how you get everyone. For every measure we take, there's someone else that is finding a way to override that. We're too advanced to be our own downfall. It's the reason I only think a super virus is capable such as the Spanish flu. It comes in, wipes everyone out before we even have a chance to know what hit us. Not to mention 500 years from now the way technology evolved humanity will probably survive anything (in some form) I wouldn't be shocked if an event happens and technology is unable to be restored how we'll resort as a species to something we're going to become seriously dependent on.
We could also get hit by a gamma ray burst or fall into a black hole any day

Eventually someone will actually build a Death Star and destroy Earth. Either that, or Unicron or Galactus will show up. Regardless, it won't take 10,000 years.

Or a Rogue Black Hole finds us. Which in itself is terrifying.

It's the reason I only think a super virus is capable such as the Spanish flu. It comes in, wipes everyone out before we even have a chance to know what hit us. I believe such an occurrence is inevitable. Many types of bacteria are resistant to antibiotics, and that will only increase as time goes by. Throw in the long-term effects of climate change and of overpopulation, as well as the fact that the worldwide birth rate has been in free-fall since the '60s and is expected to actually hit the point where the death rate is higher than the birth rate by 2160, I think a swift and significant population decrease will happen in the next 100 years.

We'll be lucky to live through the century if I'm being honest.
The 2020's are going to be an interesting decade...

Now it's been ten thousand years Man has cried a billion tears For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday

I don't believe so.
Humans are resilient, but many of the things we need to survive are not so much. Once they go, we'll die a slow death.

Apocalyptic ending well before that, probably nukes that starts as a small conflict (India vs. Pakistan) that escalates out of control or perhaps some sort of false alarm that triggers a nuclear exchange. Read this to understand how close we came in 1983. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident
