That's one of the things I like about a popular YouTube news channel (refraining from naming them to keep politics out of this thread) but they'll say the shooter's name one time for the sake of reporting the news but after that they'll just say "the shooter" and not the name. Their reasoning is because a lot of these people do things like this for the name recognition.

As far as I've heard, all the victims are expected to make a full recovery, but the gunman is dead. It's a damn good thing that some Capitol police officers were already there as a security detail or it could've been a massacre by the time police otherwise would've responded, considering some of the firepower the gunman apparently had on him.

Unfortunately, a toxic political environment will breed these extremists who commit these sorts of violent acts. It's on all of us to do better by our fellow human beings and I hope this was a sobering moment for our discourse.

Not acceptable. This is not where we want to be going. Things are heated. The issues we face elicit passionate responses but, when they go from verbal tongue-lashings to firearms, that becomes a very dangerous slippery slope if people aren't doing their best to discourage this extremism right now.

I hope it won't be too political for our board if I praise Bernie Sanders for immediately condemning this act. I'm not his biggest fan but, he deserves credit for doing his part to ensure this is nipped in the bud. Also, kudos to Alabama congressman Mo Brooks for doing his part to apply first aid.

Let's not leave out the fact that there was also a shooting today at a UPS facility in San Francisco.

It's just extremely sad that a problem so obvious is even a debate. Instead of saying, "Hey, there's obviously a huge problem here. How can we solve it?" it seems like everyone would rather yell at each other on news networks, argue on Twitter, and post stupid memes on Facebook.

Are we sure of the shooter's motives? Everyone seems to assume it was politically motivated and, well, seems fair enough, but for all we know, it could just be a random nutjob who just happened to pick this location for his shooting.

Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding. He was transported in shock to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center. He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations. We will provide periodic updates."

Pray for him, pray for the other victims, praying for the people in San Francisco after the UPS shooting there today.
