While it gets a bit too Burtonesque at times, I still really like it.
I'd say it's second behind "Batman 89"

Batman forever blows this out of the water, IMO. In terms of re-watch-ability, I even think I'd take Batman and Robin over 'Returns' *puts up flame shield* For me I'd rank them Dark Knight Batman Begins Batman Dark Knight Rises Batman vs. Superman (Affleck's Batman sequences are incredible, but its dragged down by just about everything else) Batman Forever Batman Returns Batman and Robin I'd actually probably rewatch Batman and Robin before rewatching Returns due to the camp value, though

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

It's why I'd go with it over 'Returns'. There's something so delightfully fun about it in a "so bad it's good" way.

"Life's a bitch and so am I...." Was the movie Burton's (name redacted) in WCW 1999-2000 to him being (Redacted) during his WWF stay from 1997-99 for the '89 movie? Yes. But I still enjoy it. Huh?

There are things I really like about Returns and things I really, really, really do not. Batman setting people on fire falls onto the "do not" side. A certain writer we're not allowed to mention the name of right now, bro. y'all can mention his name, I just wanted a breather from the threads about him for a bit, they weren't going very well.

Also, if you don't say his name, it just gives him more power. Like Voldemort.

Watched Returns right after watching Batman. It is extremely jarring at the differences between the two movies. I am a fan of Returns being set at Christmas, but it felt more like a Burton movie that featured Batman in a supporting role.

I still really dig this one. It's the best looking one on blu ray as well. Friggin' beautiful movie.
My ranking would go like this (live action, wise):
The Dark Knight Batman (1989) Batman Returns Batman Begins Batman (1960's) Batman vs. Superman Dark Knight Rises Suicide Squad Batman Forever
and then waaayyyyy at the bottom
Batman & Robin

I'll always have a special place in my heart for this movie because it's one of three Batman movies that I actually saw in a theatre. And what an experience it was after the Penguin had died a woman told people to get up to mourn his loss. It was without a doubt the most bizarre reaction that I've ever witnessed for a character in a movie.

I hate this movie. Batman murders people. And he is irrelevant to his own movie. It's all about the villains, some of whom are completely new creations for the movie, which seems insane with an IP with as many villains as this. It's miserable, and dark, and it's got no fun in it at all.

Watching this back, it's amazing that Warner Brothers let Burton get away with a lot of the stuff he did in Batman Returns.

I also am not a fan of Batman being a supporting actor.

It's a myth that Burton sidelined Batman/Bruce Wayne in his two movies. He didn't. Burton simply weaves Batman and the villains together. In the first movie, Batman and the Joker create each other. In the second film, Bruce and Selina have the same issues with duality. Each loses themselves in their alter-egos. As for the Penguin, he's like the warped version of Bruce Wayne. They are both from wealth and high society. Bruce lost his parents. The Penguin's parents intentionally lost him. As for killing, I have no problem with it. He's fighting psychopaths. It's kill or be killed. It also has a wicked sense of black humour, like when he sticks the bomb into that big guy's pants. Now I'm sure big guy had a family who miss him, but it was hilarious to me.
It also has scenes like this, which have such a beautiful dark and eerie tone.
