Im not going to mention the word that shall not be spoken nor its capital letter that represents it.
Just asking a question, since all those games and more are available anytime to everyone salivating over this machine, what IS the allure to this?
Is it having a piece of plastic that looks like the SNES next to your tv? Is it playing these games with a true SNES controller? Is it simply a status symbol to own one after the NES Classic?
What is IT?

What is IT? The controller is one. The USB knockoffs used with alternate methods of playing old games are okay, but the build quality just isn't the same. Second, the fact that it's an official product with the security of a warranty and technical support should it be needed (and assuming one doesn't immediately invalidate it by loading extra roms onto it).

Got an SNES for Christmas in I wanna sayyyyy 1993* with those two games (and the pack-in Mario All-Stars, sad not to see it in this collection) I must buy this for nostalgia reasons alone. It remains the best gift I've ever received to this day. I'm curious to see if they leave the SNES version of FF3 untouched (seems like since it hasn't been renamed to FF6) which means the bug that makes Magic Defense useless in-game should still be in effect! Plus I never did like the Game Boy Advance FF6's remastered music for some reason.

Save for the Final Fantasies and Secret of Mana, I bought all these games back in the mid 1990s. Maybe thats why Im ok with alternative means to play, I have already given the developers their money.

tbh, not gonna buy into Nintendo's crap after the intentional scarcity of the MiniNES and Amiibos See, I don't believe the Amiibo's were an intentional shortage. By about Wave 3, which was 6-8 months after launch, the market was FLOODED with new Amiibo's when they would launch. That one I legit think Nintendo drastically under projected how popular they would be. As for the NES, I have no idea what the f*** happened there nor do I have any idea why they would discontinue it. The only thing I can think of is that they've made the SNES significantly more difficult to mod or hack, and plan on re-introducing the NES later with the new technology. I never got my hands on one myself, but from what I heard modding them to load with more games was insanely easy.

I thought I remember reading that the NES Classic was built and the parts contracted out as a gaming novelty and NINTENDO didn't think it would actually be bought by the masses as an actual gaming system. Instead of something you could buy online for the next couple years from places like thinkgeek, it sold out instantly from everywhere. And I agree with you on amiibos. I think both were cases of underestimating demand. There are a lot worse things that can happen in business than selling out instantly and having no stock; like sitting on an inventory of 5 million unsold units.

By about Wave 3, which was 6-8 months after launch, the market was FLOODED with new Amiibo's when they would launch. That one I legit think Nintendo drastically under projected how popular they would be. It was a couple factors. They probably did intentionally short it but (all the game companies do it) while also drastically underestimating how popular they would be, combined with there was also a massive dock strike in California when the Amiibos launched as well. See, I don't believe the Amiibo's were an intentional shortage. By about Wave 3, which was 6-8 months after launch, the market was FLOODED with new Amiibo's when they would launch. I did hear something like that as well, they expected it to be a little novelty for collectors and not something that serious gamers would try and buy. I have no idea the validity of that.

The NES mini was just supposed to be a short-term thing meant to get people excited about the Nintendo brand in time for the Switch release, and the intentional shortage was to keep people constantly talking about Nintendo in the in the lead-up to the Switch. Where I live, it was actually easier to find a Japanese Famicom Mini (not that I was interested in one).

I did hear something like that as well, they expected it to be a little novelty for collectors and not something that serious gamers would try and buy. I have no idea the validity of that. I don't entirely buy it. They saw what was going on with that and the scalping, and still didn't commit to enough of a production run to counteract the scalping. I don't think it's going to be any different this time. Keeping stock low keeps hype high. Especially if they ever do an N64 Mini. "You missed out the first two times, don't miss out a 3rd time! Oh, by the way, once again, no pre-orders in North America!"

If the n64 Mini has Goldeneye, Mario kart,Mario Golf, No Mercy, Mario 64, both Zeldas and Star Fox I'm going to end up hiring the A-Team to find me a single unit.

It's pretty pathetic how stressed out I am over missing the pre-order window when/if it ever goes live in the US. I had a dream about missing it last night, that's the level of 'sad' I'm at right now.

The Latest NEWZ/RUMURZ is that the US pre-orders are delayed because of issues with the FCC.

Still going to say that either :
A) There won't be pre-orders in the US (won't venture a guess about Canada)
or
B) Only Amazon will have pre-orders (and you'll have about a 2 minute window before bots fill it up).
US retailers did not take them for the NES mini because of the extremely limited stock.

I would imagine that the US will get pre-orders. Not sure why they wouldn't, but we're talking about Nintendo here, so who knows what they'll do.
I'm morbidly curious to see how all of this plays out. Nintendo has no excuse this time around. Last time they had the (flimsy) excuse of, "Oh, we didn't expect this demand!" They're not so stupid to not see how anticipated and hyped this is. Hell, I'd say it's more hyped due to the Starfox 2 inclusion. It's a shame that every time Nintendo releases something you have to be on guard at all times so you can hopefully get in an order/pre-order.

Looks like the preorder window is shut in Australia.
The two big retailers EBgames and JB HiFi have taken down the listings on their websites. Not sure if Nintendo will offer more to them. So if any Aussies that missed out and still want one looks like you can take your chance at department store like Kmart, Myers, Target or Big W on release day. Or pay out of the arse and buy from a scalper.
Anyway glad I have mine preordered.
Now the waiting game.

So I see that the Fire Emblem game is Japan exclusive. Why not include that as an extra initiative for Western audiences? I know translating can be a bitch, but the more rarities included, the more I would think people would get on board.
