So according to Ian Rappaport the Cleveland Browns didn't offer the #12 overall pick for Garroppolo after all. That helps bring this trade into focus. The Patriots didn't get what they wanted at the draft so they decided to hold on to him until now. The Patriots know they can't keep both QB's after this season and apparently believe that Brady can play well into his 40's so they traded Garroppolo for the best offer. It is a major risk considering the rate that Brady has been getting hit this season. Still given Bill's track record it's hard to argue against him. This has been my mentality since the news of the trade broke on Monday evening. I believe the Patriots entered 2017 with Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo under contract and wanted to see how the season would play out. If Brady showed visible signs of regression, then they'd ride out the year with him and move him during the off-season or try to convince him to retire, and they'd enter 2018 and beyond with Garoppolo under center. But since Brady's playing at age 40 like he did when he was age 30, they decided they're willing to bet on his health and that he can legitimately play another four or five more years, thus making Garoppolo expendable. I want to be critical of the deal because of all the rumored trade offers that were swirling in the off-season. Reports of the 12th overall pick, multiple firsts, a first and a second, yada yada, and the best the Patriots can do for the potential future of the franchise is a solitary second-round pick. Earlier this year I said I'd rather there be a plan in place when the time comes for Brady to call it a career versus rolling the dice with whoever they draft or sign via free agency, and it appears the plan is to draft someone or acquire someone via free agency or trade, because this team is Tom Brady's for the foreseeable future. Much like the Jamie Collins trade last season, I want to hate this trade because I don't see how it makes the Patriots better, but after trading Collins, the Patriots went 10-1 and won the Super Bowl with the best scoring defense in the league. So at the end of the day, while I'm not going to cover my eyes and ears and shout "IN BILL WE TRUST!" I have to give Bill Belichick the benefit of the doubt and at least see how this plays out because he's been proven right too many times for me to now start turning on him. So it seems the Pats know they need to re-tool in the offseason but who is backing up Brady now? I don't necessarily think they need to re-tool, they just need to refine certain positions. They've played fairly lousy football for the first eight weeks of the season and are 6-2. They've been ravaged by injuries, which is shining a light on their depth issues, but if there's a coaching staff that I trust to coach up no-names like Adam Butler, Elandon Roberts, Johnson Bademosi, and Jonathan Jones, it's the Patriots' staff. But they'll need to go into the off-season targeting depth on the offensive and defensive lines and linebacking. But I wouldn't call it a re-tooling necessary, they just need to tinker with the formula. And that's a damn impressive thing to say for a team that could finish 12-4 and represent the AFC in Super Bowl LII.

BRV What does New England do for a backup now? Besides humoring Hoyer.

BRV What does New England do for a backup now? Besides humoring Hoyer. The only thing is Free Agency Backups. And in the offseason probably target another QB in the later rounds.

BRV What does New England do for a backup now? Besides humoring Hoyer. All indications are that it's just a matter of time before Brian Hoyer returns to the Patriots in the role he started his career in - as the backup to Tom Brady. If, for some reason, Hoyer doesn't sign with New England, then the Patriots will have to peruse the list of free agent quarterbacks. But whether Hoyer signs or they go elsewhere, I can all but guarantee the Patriots will be using a draft pick on a backup quarterback in next spring's NFL Draft.

It would be the greatest thing in the world if they signed Kaepernick.

Never make a trade with the Patriots, the trader ends up looking like an idiot 90% of the time

Never make a trade with the Patriots, the trader ends up looking like an idiot 90% of the time The Dolphins gave up Ajayi over a feeling for basically some chips, and The Browns were too busy celebrating a trade to make it official Can you REALLY look stupider at this point??

Brock Osweiler has been named the starter for the Broncos against The Eagles this week
Guess this is his shot to reclaim whatever former glory he had

This saga is hilarious to me. He'd have to play like an MVP to get a big contract but I think if he does halfway decent than the job is his for a little while with Lynch hoping to capitalize next year if Brock falls. Ultimately, unless Brock plays as well like he did in his first stint with Broncos, Denver will be looking for a starter in the draft after next season

Middle of the road at best.

He was what they needed (He wouldn't lose them the game) Elway got saved dashing out big money to him Denver got what they wanted from this team in regards to a ring but their window is closing without a QB to lead them

"If we have a player or we have somebody guilty of domestic violence, they shouldn't play," Jones said. "But this isn't the case. In our society, [Elliott's] not guilty of that." Greg Hardy......
