I don't know what to say about this episode, it seems they took some shots at the fandom here, or at least the bad part of it.
This was a good Starlight episode, shows how far she has come, she is giving Twilight lessons and when she hugged those two fillies at the end, adorable. When Twilight she had good intention and it back fired, sounds familiar, if anyone can relate it is Starlight.
Those Rainbow Dash fans, they have some nerve they called Twilight lesson's boring right in front of her, who talks like that to a princess. They are lucky Twilight is not petty enough to throw them in the dungeon.
I did get a good laugh at the Fluttershy criticism, it shows the show is self aware.
And the song, wasn't expecting a song, it was good. Not the best song in the world, but due able, which how far I feel about this episode.

Much like the song in "All Bottled Up", they don't seem to be working this season.

As a Fluttershy fan, I love the fact that she has gotten more assertive over the years. Her shyness made me a fan, but I knew she had to be more than that eventually and it's worked out great.

Much like the song in "All Bottled Up", they don't seem to be working this season. Though one did allow for true love to blossom...

That is quite true, and what an MVP song for an MVP episode.
So pretty much, the Mane 6 shouldn't sing any songs this season, just leave it up to other characters.

I wonder what Glimmer said to those 2 ponies who don't like Rarity.

I voted a 9 because I enjoy potshots at the garbage parts of fandom. At least while still keeping the show TV-Y.

Just watched it and... I can't really say higher than a 6. There were parts about it I liked a good bit but... I dunno, it really felt genuinely meanspirited toward the fans at points.
And also the whole time I really just kept thinking that in all honesty the constant shilling of Starlight and cramming her into everything is killing this show for me. I don't care about Starlight, I don't watch this show for Starlight, but her role keeps expanding and expanding and I don't like it.

Lapis stole my vote
I didn't need to watch to answer this poll
I did watch - and I want to like this episode, I really do. And while I agree that a lot of the fanbase represented by the other ponies needed a "Calm the F down" message, I felt a little talked down to, as well.

"Fame & Misfortune"...gets a 8/10.
Pros: -For the most part, this was a really hilarious critique on some parts of the fandom. I am in general the type that does not feel insulted at potshots going against things I like or the fandom I am a part of (I enjoyed for example Linkara's reviews of the MLP comics and Asterix The Legionary recently). And seeing the mane cast react to the kind of fans their journal attracted was funny to watch (especially Fluttershy's and Applejack's reactions).
-Starlight's role in this one was well-used I thought. Since she was not there during the time the journal was composed, she brought a kind of outside perspective that was helpful in resolving the conflict. Instead of looking to convince the fans to take a look at what the lessons really mean, she showed Twilight the kind of ponies she was publishing the journal for. Also loved how Starlight pulled no punches protecting her friends (especially am curious what she said to the Rarihaters).
-The song is IMHO the second-best song of the season behind "In My Head Like A Catchy Song". Good use of all the mane cast and a lot more stand-outish than the rather pedestrian "Best Friends Until The End Of Time".
-Again, solid pacing with the episode with every scene being allowed enough time to breathe.
Cons:
-The episode just seems to...just end. While what Starlight showed was nice, it did not solve anything about those rabid fans/haters outside who made lives miserable for the mane cast the past few days (the hardest part was probably Rarity getting cancellations. Seriously, WTF ponies?!). Nothing was really resolved, leaving us only with the mane cast (or rather Twilight) feeling better about herself that she did not make a mistake in publishing the journal.
-Also did not like that they sometimes used beloved background characters to use as part of the rabid fans. Why Daisy of all people to use for that role? Or Berry Punch? And I know I will probably bleed sweat and tears trying to come up with a good TLML adventure to explain their appearance here.
Otherwise though, it was good and a worthy 8/10.
