Here, watch this 2 and a half minute fan cam from his 2nd MSG match from 1973. It's not an HBK/Hart classic, but look at how he works the crowd with his antics, how he shows off raw power by lifting his opponent with just his neck, the speed of his uppercuts, the way he forms psychology with the crowd through it all. Even for a squash match, you can see he gets it and he knows exactly how to work with what he is and what he has: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksuJ6nMDh-gMany thanks for sharing that EDIT: Don't have time to watch it now, Bomber's game is on, but I am so watching the Andre/Inoki match from 74 that's on that channel later

Andre for me gets a pass because later in life he was clumsy and stuff, but he also had a completely destroyed back, was in constant pain, and had been working for years at that point. Look at his early stuff, and it's out there, and you'll see how he was before his body gave out on him.

The Princess Bride was better than The Longest Yard remake. True, but Longest Yard was pretty good, probably the last good Sandler movie before the decline.

Andre wasn't over exposed. He would do a run as a special attraction in a territory and move on. Khali was on TV every week for a long time.

Cuz if so....Longest Yard remake was f***ing ballsweat. The Waterboy was the last decent film the man made. Back on topic... Andre was an *attraction*. People paid money just to see him. They didn't care about anything else on the card. Also, I've seen other outlets show him respect. Such as ESPN. Several 'casters from ESPN would call an athlete 'The 9th Wonder of the World'. Because Andre is was and always will be the 8th. Also, around the time Khali came around, you had Taker, Kane, Big Show, Snitsky....all these huge guys. Khali wasn't anything special. He was just another hoss. Furthermore...the man was Fezzik.

Andre in his heyday was an accomplished wrestler who understood the craft, who could play up his strengths while glossing over his shortcomings in the ring, and who knew what people wanted to see when they saw him. Khali was tall, and that was about it.

Andre had earned it more, being the short answer.
That isn't to say I thought Khali was irredeemable or something. I actually liked him when he adopted the vice grip as a finisher, since I felt like it could be built to more interestingly than the choke bomb or the brain chop.

This is like comparing Stone Cold to Sarge from the WCW Power Plant.

Nobody can mess with Andre's leaning game.

Andre wasn't always immobile, and he had star presence.
Khali is OK if used properly. He just cannot handle proper matches. Limit his role and he's alright.

Look at his early stuff, and it's out there, and you'll see how he was before his body gave out on him. The man was living on a drink concoction he called the American for the last few years of his life. It consisted of a pitcher and 40 ozs of whatever hard booze was around. He'd go through 4 or 5 of those a day. The man deserves every pass he gets.

I was a kid at the tail end of his career in the 80s and it's like night and day. As many have said in here though, Andre had a great body of work before he became the guy I knew, whereas Khali never really had anything. They tried to sell his chops and claws as devastating but they looked pitiful and weak to me. Now if I'd been older with Andre I'm not sure how I'd feel about him but I believed he could destroy someone. I never believed that with Khali.

The Andre the giant most people remember was a shell of what he was, he was in constant pain by that point and shouldn't have been wrestling, but stuck at it because he loved being there. He could barelymake it tothe ring without putting his weight on his manager during his heel run so there's no wonder he wasn't great by that point. Khali was never good, he's a heck of a guy but some people just don't take to wrestling, it's not his fault, but here we are, and the massive overexposure on WWE TV did him no favours, nor did being active at the same time as the Big Show, a guy who could do everything.

I'm still trying to figure out what the point of winning his Battle Royal is. It sounds better than its previous name, the "Everybody gets a WM Payday" Battle Royal

The man was pretty good until the ankle injury in 1981. Saw a match against Hogan from the Spectrum in 1980 where he did a frickin' running avalanche on Hulk. Twice. (That asshole ref Dick Woerhle got squashed the second time when Hogan pulled him in, and popped back up 5 seconds later.)
Even after the injury, he was in a lot of tag matches with some of the top guys in the country as his partner. Just seeing him holding the tag rope and stretching his arm way out got the people in a tizzy. "Man, if Andre gets that tag, those guys are in trouble."
And I give him a pass because he's so large he doesn't know his own strength, so while you may think a lot of his punches and kicks look weak, give him credit...he doesn't wanna kill his opponent.

Andre had a presence that even Hogan couldn't match. Hulkamania may have been a phenomenon, but Hulk was still just a wrestler. Andre the Giant made the world take notice. Khali isn't even in the same league.

different time, different product, different format and io'd imagine Andre was a much rarer sight. plus charisma
