Some guys just never seek to grow or develop; they latch onto what made them famous and go for it. Familiarity and nostalgia are such big things in wrestling, and some guys find a decent way in just coasting off their previous work rather than taking a chance with anything new. With all the demons and employment problems Janetty had, there wouldn't have really been a time period where even if he tried to and was allowed to reinvent himself that it would have taken in the long term, and he'd be right back to the Rocker schtick today due to never having that platform for it.

I just want to know why his Hasbro looked nothing like him... Earnest Borgnine looking sharp with dark hair. You said Ernest Borgnine, I said Colonel Gadaffi....I see your Borgnine, and raise you an Ian McShane.

Had he managed to stay employed long enough to feud with HBK properly, he probably could have evolved a bit. Instead he kept coming back as Rocker Janettey so people would remember and it never really got passed that. Hell, in the whole time he was a Rocker, grunge came and went and then he teamed with Al Snow who stole his name off two guys from the 70's one would hardly call rockers, leaving himself even farther out of date than he was.

I think had he been ever to stay clean enough in 1993 after his runs with Shawn than maybe WWE would have done a repackaging. But he couldn't. Dude showed up for his IC title match at Royal Rumble 93, his first major solo match on ppv for an angle that had been heavily promoted, so messed up it was a miracle Shawn was able to carry him to a good match. After that he had that cup of coffee run with the title in the early summer but it was clear that Vince did not see him as a guy he could trust not to mess it up. So at that point his money is all in working indy dates and the occasional WWE run as a nostalgia act.

He could've been good if he managed to keep a job for more than 5 minutes, But alas he'll mainly be remembered as that guy who tried to jump through a window to escape Shawn Michaels ARE YOU BLIND?

I just want to know why his Hasbro looked nothing like him... When did Colonel Gadaffi get a wrestling figure? When the Colonel won the Libya World title and renamed the words "yes" and "no" as "Gadaffi"

Which is why the kept bringing him back. Because even as ex-Rocker Marty Jannetty JTTS he would bump and sell like crazy to get guys they were pushing over. The thing is it was clear Vince never trusted him to do anything else, and with good reason.

I think Chris Austin would disagree with that I have no idea how he won his lawsuit, when just about every wrestler said it was Austin's own fault for tucking his chin, which is the one thing you do not do when taking that move.

Probably because the WWF let him work a match with insufficient training, he'd only been training for six weeks before that match, compounded by a jury not quite grasping the accepted risks of wrestling, same issue that saw Lloyds of London saddled with big insurance payouts through the late 80s and 90s.

I don't know but had he embraced grunge or thrash I think he could have done a very interesting and very different version of the grunge thing than Raven did years later. Shame he was injury prone, I know it's not the best thing to say but many other successful acts managed with their drug problems. Marty, had he been healthy, could have done the same.

The thread title makes Marty Jannetty sound like Doctor Who.

The difference between Marty and Shawn is Shawn's drug and behavioural problems played out backstage for the most part, while Marty was a public embarrassment, and by the time Shawn's issues hit their peak, the WWF was being built around him after the pushes of so many others had failed so they couldn't change course easily.

And also vince had a major man crush on shawn by then. As for marty, he could have become the Grunge Rocker.
