Dude, with respect, do you have to do these huge blocks of matches all at once? It feels like no one else's match recs are getting through.

WWE ECW - listed as ECW 39 March 7 2007 Rob Van Dam vs Elijah Burke MOAR Zenmeister! I was (obviously) pretty interested in the Originals v. New Breed feud, and having Tazz and Joey Styles commentating adds a little bit of gravitas. This was the match that set up the Mania showdown. I recommend the post-Mania extreme rules(not the PPV) match so you can see what all these guys can do! Marcus Cor Von could have been so much more. I know it was outside circumstances that took him away from the ring. RVD's flexibility really helps with Rob's selling, and really helped build up Burke in this match. Camerawork got a little sloppy near the end of the match - you don't even get to see the 5* til the post-match replay. Rob might have done TOO good of a job, as going into WM23 a LOT of people figured the Originals would be run over by the New Breed. Now I'm going to get to some of the others who have posted in this thread to watch their matches, and bob I will come back to your pile once they're caught up.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Lord Steven Regal - Fall Brawl 1993 Not sure who Sir William is, but Regal didn't need a manager! Your referee for this match, Nick Patrick (with his mullet) Steamboat with only half his ribs taped looks weird to me. Weirder still is how poorly the cameras are balanced compared to each other. Steamboat is underrated as a brawler, and transitions very well into MAT RASSLIN. Regal's crossface looks a little light, and Steamboat "tapped" on it but the ref doesn't call for the bell. Both sell Steamboat's injured ribs to keep the story going. Despite good execution, They can't make me like the catapault. And EVERYBODY! LOVES! A BRIDGE PIN! Well-told story, even with Ventura yammering through it all

Jericho vs Benoit Ladder Match for the IC title - Royal Rumble 2001 I've seen clips of this match, but I don't think I've watched it in its entirety. I miss Lionheart's MANE Lawler: If I was Benoit I'd go put Jericho in a crossface right now! JR: you'd also be missing a tooth Lawler: Hey, my teeth are perfect! I've got almost as many as Edge! Both Jericho and Benoit were willing to take some bigger risks to keep the crowd invested. Despite them LOOKING dangerous, much of the violence is well-protected. JR: They don't teach taking a chair to the face in wrestling school! Lawler: You sure about that? JR: well, I took it as a correspondence course. being 2001, there was an XFL reference in the commentary. I wonder if this is the first time the overhead cam for Ladder matches has been referred to as the "Wile E. Coyote cam". Benoit had to stall a little TOO long at the end of the match. I think I spotted a pre-cap Sign Guy in the crowd. To those who watched the Attitude Era, is there a reason that only one ladder is used when the Hardys aren't involved? I've reviewed another ladder match where only one ladder was available.... a thoroughly brutal match in a GOOD way.

Invaders vs. Mr. Fuji and Tiger Chung Lee. 1/23/84 If anyone can explain to me why that one Invader keeps jumping over the ropes and into the ring for no reason please do. I see that both of the Invaders had a spring in their step. If I'm hearing the table right, that's Monsoon and Pat Patterson? This is a rare chance for me to see Mr. Fuji actually wrestling. Patterson: "Here comes one of the meanest men in wrestling. He loves punishing." Gorilla: "Dangerous individual. A master of the martial arts, can hurt you in so many ways.... some of them permanent!" Invader #1 apparently REALLY wanted to be in the match- or practicing his timing for helping his partner. Crowd doesn't seem all that interested in this match. You've got two foreigner tag teams, one team in masks..... who are the faces? I also noticed the ropes for this match were extremely loose, that's distracting. Gorilla accidentally calls one of the invaders by his real name mid-match. Oops. I think I heard an errant bell ringing during the ab stretches. Looks like they were setting up for the Star submission combo when time was called. Match was okay, a few things in there didn't quite make sense but a good contrast to how wrestling works today.

Ric Flair vs. Barry Windham, Slamboree 1994. It sounds like Windham wasn't really a storyline surprise, but I do see a ton of signs for Hogan. Poor ref Randy Anderson was introduced as "Randy Peterson", poor bastard..... I think HAT GUY from ECW is front row cameraside. "Chicken Money" (re: Colonel Parker) that AND his character wouldn't fly today unless they were doing a KFC commercial. Surprised the ref didn't shoo Colonel Parker away for the rope break, then he counts the rope break...... never change, WCW. Better camerawork in this match than some things I've seen in earlier NWA/WCW, including a nice cut to cover their tumbling out of the ring (windham was a step too far away from the ropes) And this is the FIRST time I've seen him complete the Flair Flip successfully - including running the apron and doing a crossbody for the win. Technically solid match overall. I think the crowd was disappointed that Hogan didn't come through that curtain. Maybe that's why Philly hates him now

Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels-Raw August 1, 1994. This was HBK's first televised match since Mania 10 and also Vince's first appearance back on Raw since the Steroid trial and of course Randy Savage makes several mentions of it throughout jokingly. Boy, does Vince look/sound uncomfortable whenever Macho brings it up..... Scott Hall is deceptively tall. Macho: Shawn Michaels has a lot of confidence and some of that "Confidence" is outside the ring Vince: About seven feet of it, isn't it? Macho: Absolutely! I still hate the catapault. Hall makes up for it with his Ab stretch and getting one of HBK's feet off the mat. Vince: You won't find action like this at the Goodwill games! Macho: The Goodwill Games? That some kinda new game show? Vince: ... something like that Vince doing his level best to get over the terms "New Generation" and calling Shawn "Boy Toy". Finish was creative - was expecting an "Eddie" finish when Hebner saw the IC title in the ring. Everyone looks pretty good in this match, which is what happens when guys are friends backstage.

Survivor Series 1992. Ric Flair & Razor Ramon vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect. Not the best match in terms of workrate (especially given the talent in the ring), but Flair is at his irate best. Speaking of irate, Heenan is furious that Perfect turned on him and Flair and proceeds to turn in one of his best ever commentary shifts, second only to the 92 Rumble in my opinion. I want a Macho Teddy bear, glasses and all! And WOW, Heenan is absolutely volcanic for this match! Love when Ric's tagged in, he's hopping mad for Perfect dissing him with a chop! Vince: If anyone knows anything about anger and hatred, it's you, Brain Bobby: Yes I do! and I HATE MR. PERFECT!!! Bobby: You don't make a fool out of Razor Ramon! You do and you might end up MISSING. It's taking me longer than normal to get through this match because I'm taking notes - this and RR92 are clinics on manager/commentary work. Perfect holding the Perfectplex on Ramon for 10+ seconds is awesome. Referee schmozz and subsequent DQ gives this a more WCW feel. Even with a better match there's no way they can live up to Brain's "Gripe".

Jimmy Snuka vs Renee Goulet 1/23/84 in Old Schhool section Aka the match that had to follow the Hogan title win I haven't even started the video and I feel bad for them already. Their bell ringer still hadn't quite come down from that last match. Monsoon: "Fans cheering for Superfly, with anything that they may have left....." This match is so much of a cool-down that Monsoon and Patterson are hoping there'll be champagne left from the backstage celebrations. Even the ref wanted out of there with that fast count for the pinfall. Short, sweet, catch your breath match. Can't fault either of these guys for doing anything crazy.
