The trouble with a lot of these modern attempts, in my opinion, is they get too hung up on the word "wonders," as if each entry on the list needs to have some otherworldly or unbelievable quality to it in order to qualify. But that's the exact qualification that was taken into account. The *exact* qualification. Seven man-made creations that seemed beyond the capabilities of man to create at the time. No they weren't. Most of them didn't even exist any longer (some by centuries) when the original list was created during the Renaissance. Stonehenge and the Easter Island heads Those aren't just heads, bro. They're full busts going all the way to the waist. Yeah, that was the point of the Wonders... also yep those are full on statues buried in the ground at Easter Island.

They should be rebuilt, along with a statue of Andre The Giant. King Kong wants a word with you.

Seeing as this thread is bumped already. I remember being annoyed with people who desperately wanted US representation even though our top candidate (Statue of Liberty) had nothing on most of the candidates I think if the Crazy Horse memorial is ever competed it could be squeezed up there.

The pace of work on the Crazy Horse memorial is absurdly slow.

The pace of work on the Crazy Horse memorial is absurdly slow. Part of that is the people it's supposed to be honoring don't want it.
