Well, this was the first season I watched as it was happening (as opposed to Netflix or reruns) and I have to say that it was really good. Lots of good backstory, character development, and slice of life stories. It's going to be a long wait until Spring though, maybe I'll check out the rest of the EQG movies (I've already seen the first one and Rainbow Rocks), as well as getting the MLP Movie when it hits DVD (It didnt come to my local theater).

Wouldn't it be a twist if we found either Starlight or Sunburst were descendants of Starswirl?

"Shadow Play"...gets 10/10 (as mentioned yesterday). Pros: -One major positive I have always liked about the mane cast over the seasons is that they are not flawless, perfect characters but characters that have faults, can make mistakes and are prone to make misjudgments. And Twilight Sparkle represented that aspect to a tee in the season finale. Clouded by wanting to bring the pillars back (especially Starswirl whose admiration we have known since Season 2), she brings back the evil they banished back as well. Feeling inadequate in front of her role model and seeing him as the beacon of knowledge she goes ahead with his plan of banishing the creature, but as it turns out, the answer to solving the problem was something she knew all along through the 6 previous seasons. I love that she is not portrayed as an infallible Mary Sue, like some people think but who can misjudge and would have more struggles if she did not have the support of her friends, her VIPs. -The role Starlight Glimmer played here was also adequately filled. Not being the main hero she was in last year's finale, she was however important in being the voice of reason and thinking of a different way since she was not clouded by admiration for the pillars. Her accusation at Twilight just before they went off to fight the Pony Of Shadows was pretty powerful stuff and another testament in the strong continuity the season displayed...furthermore considering that the Season beginning and end ended with a mentor-student hug. -The other elements played an important part as well in being the ones acquiring the items needed to open limbo as well as supporting their respective pillar to power up the elements. Loved seeing those mini-episodes within the episode and proving further to me that the show is not "Princess Twilight Sparkle and 5 accessories" like it seems to get thrown out a lot. -The characterization of Starswirl was pretty good IMHO; a pony who has made many experiences but whose inexperience in friendship (as mentioned in the Season 3 finale) left him unable to understand the motivation of Stygian and causing him to make the wrong call of judgment. But it also speaks about him that he was able to admit his mistakes in the end and coming to learn something new. The other pillars, while not getting to do as much, were also portrayed adequately (loved finally hearing Somnambula's real voice...so sexy). -The Pony Of Shadows was a new facet of finale villain we have not seen before: the character possesed and corrupted by evil. Having a good design and great voice, the Pony Of Shadows definitely made for a good villain. Perhaps, somepony else will free him from limbo to make a return. -The story itself was a pretty good with the season concluding the strong aspect of very good pacing that permeated the whole season (now I can finally stop pointing it out next season), action, humor and character moments were done in a pretty good balance, loved seeing some familiar faces again (Petunia Paleo<3) and being among the best season finales of the whole show. Cons: -Nothing major to report. Just a fantastic way to cap off the season. 10/10. Awesome!

The Pony Of Shadows wanted to rob the land of hope? Wonder why he hated Somnambula so much...

So, I've been thinking a bit about Tirek's return next season, and I'm willing to guess two things will happen:
1. We could finally be getting Scorpan 2. Tirek may end up reformed by the end

Scorpan, yes. Reformation, no. Could see more that he and Chryssi team up and her getting reformed, though (as much as I don't like that idea).
Well, Luna, you technically met one of the other pillars. But cannot blame you if you thought it was just a kooky old pony.

Must have made you happy that she is now TV show canon too. Applejack! Don't be so insensitive! You make Derpy cry!

In that case, its just the joy of seeing her make a TV appearance. Another villain who just stands there dumbly while the heroes power up their magical mcguffins to defeat him.
