EA has always done bullshit like this with online-multiplayer featured games since, at least, Mass Effect 2. Hell, on their sports games, they make you pay all sorts of money for "coins" to buy packs for players. Problem is, you get f*** all usually no matter much you pay. Microtransactions are a complete scam and EA are front and center in pushing it. It's the main reason why I'm not as big into gaming as I used to be. I have no interest losing money on what's essentially unsanctioned gambling where the house almost always wins.
And to those who say "Don't buy EA products!" That's not as easy as it seems. They own a lot of things in gaming.

Thing is I'm still getting this since a) I'm a Star Wars faithful b) I have a bunch of friends who are getting it I want to play with and c) I have to review it anyways. Despite that I'm so annoyed with how they're handling this game. It's like a monkey's paw wish. We wished they would drop the paid dlc for it and we got this instead.

Whilst it's funny, I'm not sure it deserves to be the most downvoted considering some of the horrible things people have said on that site. Some of those awful things people have said don't deserve even the attention of a downvote. Or some of the worst of the very worst subreddit don't deserve over 100,000 plus views. This is hilarious where a giant corporation is giving the most giant blubbering corporate response to possibly the biggest example of video game greed they created. I think the only comment I have seen that had close to the amount of downvotes was one of the active Westboro Baptist Church Members doing an AMA.

Sadly the people that complain will still buy the product. I have never bought any EA game that isnt used, but one guy isnt gonna make a dent in EA The problem with EA is they've got their fingers in so many pies it's really hard to buy a game (even good ones) without their name on it Yeah... the majority of major games published come from EA, Activision, or Ubisoft.

And then there's the news going around Twitter that they lowered the paywall considerably for reviewer copies (one screenshot from a review shows a character costing 10,000 credits when the same costs 60,000 in the retail game). If that's the case, they know they are doing stuff that people will hate, so why do it in the first place? There's doing something and it ends up not working, and then there's doing something you know is wrong that will piss people off and doing it anyway.

Yeah... the majority of major games published come from EA, Activision, or Ubisoft. at least nintendo isnt in on this shit. Not yet at least I mean technically they are thanks to Amiibo now having more and more positive impacts on a game. And some content entirely is being locked behind Amiibo in certain games. But, and this is why I am completely fine with their Amiibo lock strategy, with Amiibo it is a one time fee, most games that use Amiibo also allow you to use other Amiibo for additional stuff too even if it isn’t the super special content in that game meaning your vast collection isn’t only useful in just one specific game, and above all else, you get an amazing little Nintendo figure out of the deal.

So do we know if Battlefront II is awful or good or what? From what I have seen and heard the actual gameplay is really fun, but of course this loot box progression system bullcrap ruins the whole experience.

The lead developer's first reaction to the backlash didn't go over well. He's now back peddling, claiming to have been "taken out of context."

I mean, to an extent, I agree with him. Most of this stuff is placed on them from higher-ups and sometimes, people act like the developers are the ones who did this rather than the companies that run them if they're part of a bigger company. Like, people easily forget that a lot of people in game development are working long hours in a pretty thankless environment most of the time and they're always having to look out for new jobs if a project gets messed up.
At the same time, yeah, that's not the thing to be putting out online especially during a tense time like this where, heck, it wasn't even anything to do with you. It was your community team that messed up for this thing.

I mean, he's probably defending the developers from backlash but at the same time, THEY'RE one of the reasons they're getting a backlash in the first place.

He isn't displaying a lot of pride and accomplishment there. I mean, I can understand him not exactly wanting to be in the position to put his bosses under the bus, but there's a lot better you can do than a snarky tweet. Even if it's the generic "we're listening to your concerns and comments blahblahblah" PR line.

I really want to get hardcore back into gaming, not having owned my own console since like...2010...but I really loathe this concept of paying money for features in games.

Honestly, in terms of indie titles, this is one of the best periods going. This year alone had stuff like Night in the Woods and Slayaway Camp being stuff I played a lot and consoles are finally getting some of the really cool smaller PC titles from the last few years like Undertale, Volgarr the Viking and Freedom Planet.

He was a douche. It was not the developers fault of course. It is producers, but the critiscism is valid

Stick with retro games and try to buy used games only GOG is pretty much heaven for me, Plus they have original Battlefront. Steam is fine but they sometimes load their games with DRM which is also a cancer in video game world Also f*** EA, I know I've already said that but I feel it can never be said enough times
