I am the worst gift giver in the world. I have a few to buy for - my girlfriend, parents, brother, sister, and two nieces. I am pretty consistent at leaving them disappointed and it drives me crazy.

I would like to use this thread to state emphatically that Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie. If y'all wanna fight I'll be at the water tower. Them’s fightin’ words

Here's the thing I like Die Hard. Die Hard is great. So lets say it's August 15 or so and I wanna watch a movie. And I go to what ever streaming service or look at my DVD collections and I see two movies: Die Hard and Miracle on 34th Street. Would I watch Die Hard in August? Hell yes. Would I watch Miracle on 34 Street? Never. But on December 15th? Of course I would. To me that's what a Christmas movie is. It's not just that it takes place around Christmas. It's not just that the holiday is a plot point. The movie has to be about Christmas in a way in which the holiday is specific to the plot to the point where if you like watching it the rest of the year people would think you're a little weird.
In short: Die Hard is a year round movie. Miracle on 34th Street/It's a Wonderful Life/A Christmas Story etc are Christmas movies.

My two cents on Die Hard as a Christmas Movie.
Okay, first of all... the entire argument is a joke in and of itself, and also, it's a completely subjective argument that's serves its purpose as a tongue-in-cheek jab here and there.
Beyond that, though.... Die Hard is a Christmas movie in that it takes place during a Christmas party and the entire story could've happened any time of the year just the fact it's Christmas makes it a Christmas movie. Just like Home Alone, you could've done the exact same movie during the Summer and very little would be changed. But, the fact it happens at Christmas makes it a Christmas movie.
However, it's also enough of a Christmas movie where you can enjoy it as one... but it's also one that doesn't beat you over the head with the fact that it is Christmas. That's why it feels weird to watch Christmas Vacation, Christmas Carol or A Christmas Story any other time of the year. They beat you over the head with Christmas that you can't escape it.
If I'm going to divide people into categories.... Die Hard is a Christmas movie for those who honestly get annoyed with any mention of Christmas before Thanksgiving. They may like it and accept it fine, but they want it in small doses at appropriate times. That's Die Hard... you can watch it as a Christmas movie, or as a pure action movie, or a little of both because it appeals to whomever is watching it for whichever reason they want to at the moment.

Xmas is normally my favourite time of year, but this year its looking like I won't be able to have a Xmas at all. My and my guide dog's medical bills are just too much. I've had to spend all the money I raised (https://www.gofundme.com/MeAndVictory --it would mean a lot if anyone could share it) on our medical bills and keeping him in working condition. I will say though, my dog is a trooper. Despite everything else, he's getting into the spirit of the season:

Regular Christmas viewings include, but aren't limited to
Blackadder Christmas Carol Every Christmas episode of Viccar of Dibley (The Christmas Lunch Incident is fantastic) The Hogfather (Discworld) MST3K Santa Claus (the dumb Mexican kids movie) Both Charlie Brown specials White Christmas (Like Holiday Inn, but good and without the awkward blackface sequence) A Muppet Family Christmas
Here is a Muppet Family Christmas, probably my favorite special

I can agree on the Britcom picks, right down to the "correct" VOD episode. Everyone in my family loved imitating Alice's mother: "You did, did you?" Mr. Bean Christmas was pretty good too. And can we count the Ab Fab New Year's episode? Can't disagree about Charlie Brown, even some of the newer Xmas Peanuts shows are pretty good, as they adapt comic strip storylines. Muppet Family Xmas is a CLASSIC, albeit, sadly, at best a YouTube classic as that's the only place where you get the real deal. Been watching the Lady Gaga/Muppets special, it's not too bad actually. But not a patch on MFC. As for that other Muppet special...like I said in the Misfit Specials thread, the only noteworthy things about that were: 1) they got Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to be on it (?!?), 2) Beaker on steroids, and 3) My friend thought Piggy became a prostitute in the Kermitless Universe. And yes, both MST3K episodes. Think we've alternated over years which one we'll watch. (One year the Joel episode, next the Mike one, and back and forth). And on the side, we also have the DVD of Rifftrax's Christmas show. I think we did get Rifftrax Santa Conquers the Martians, so I must finally watch that. Justice League: Comfort and Joy and the Fun Haus episode of Batman: Brave and the Bold are right up there as well for yearly watching, as are Christmas with the Joker and Holiday Knights from B:TAS. Mickey's Christmas Carol, and luckily I have an old VHS transfer as "remastering" on the DVD is apparently not that great, and FoxABCFreeformWowThisChannelHasAsManyNamesAsTNAGFWIMPACT edits the crap out of its airings. Locally, we have the WPIX Yule Log and Magic Garden Christmas. And of course there's the guilty pleasure here and there....He-Man Christmas, Star Wars, some bad horror movie....
