Credit to this thread for giving me the idea. officialfan.proboards.com/thread/566736/christmasFigure, Ill make this thread a bit more positive then just all around negative one. What is the worst gift that you remember getting? Be it for Christmas, Birthday, or some other thing. I remember one year for Christmas, I got my sister a poster from Titanic, cost like $20. She spent like $50 to get her friend a sword and all she got me was a box of band aids. Well, every year since, all she's gotten from me is a box of band aids. The best gift? Probably back in 2002, after spending like six months without a ps2, my first one broke. Without even asking for one, Dad picked me up another one for Christmas. I forgot about one, Knowing nothing about the show, Dad somehow managed to get me this one year for Christmas.

Life.
/obligatory answer
Probably the year two family members gave me the same s'mores maker, neither of which gave me marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, or the alcohol it'd burn to cook it. It could hardly have been more useless or thoughtless.

A plain long sleeve shirt from the ex-wife for Christmas one year. After being together for 12 years, married for ten, a plain long sleeve shirt with the excuse "I didn't know what to get you". Suffice it to say, it was our last Christmas together.

I was such an ungrateful P.O.S. as a teenager that I now never consider any gift a bad one. Although I did get a Star Wars page-a-day calendar last year that had trivia that was so easy and facts that were so thoughtless it should have been called "Star Wars for Noobs".
I've gotten albums over the years that were terrible too but that was by no fault of the giver.
Best gift though was probably my 80Gb first gen PS3 from my wife in late-2007. I was laid off from work so I needed something to pass the time with. And I still consider it the greatest system I ever owned because of its backwards compatability. It died in spring 2013.

Not sure about the best, because I was one of those kids that would get something awesome but spend most of my time playing with the cup and ball game that was in my stocking.
Worst was probably the 3 years in a row that I got soap on a rope, i guess that my mom was worried about what might happen in the showers after high school football games or wrestling matches. I’ve never asked for the logic behind it, not sure that I want to know.

The best was on my 11th birthday when I got my PS1 since it was completely unexpected. It's probably due to it that I'm so big on gaming to this day, even though I had a Mega Drive and several Famiclones before.
The worst... eh don't really have one. Maybe a sweater a aunt gave me when I was little that was a couple of sizes too small so we had to return it, but I've been blessed by not expecting much in terms of gifts. Especially since I barely receive anything that isn't by my parents nowadays.

The best was The Big Four concert DVD. I think I've watched it more than any other DVD ever.
The worst was when my dad literally wrapped up a box of snack cakes for me. He wasn't poor or anything, he just sucked at Christmas.

Best: My 1st NES system. That gift kept on giving for years.
Worst: The Big Bang Theory board game. At the time, I had never even seen the show and knew nothing about it. My stepmom told me she got it for me because I remind her of Sheldon. Then I actually watched the show and felt insulted. The game is in the back of my closet somewhere, still in its shrinkwrap.

Worst: my ex bought me a bath bomb shaped like Santa. I mean, a bath bomb sucks as a gift anyway but I'm not even a bath person, I always take showers. I'm not usually a bitch but I opened it and said "And when was the last time you saw me have a bath?!" Remarkably the relationship lasted until the following September.
Best: last year my friend gave me his grandad's collection of Inspector Morse books (his grandad passed away earlier in the year). That was really cool.

My wife gave me a positive pregnancy test as a present on my birthday

Best: An HDTV from my parents one year.
Worst: Honestly I can't remember any outright bad ones.

Worst-2 years ago my aunt gave me her dead husbands mid 80s computer flightstick. That he had ripped the stick part off and glued to a piece of wood.
Best-Not really sure got a lot of great gifts. Got the USS Flagg one Xmas. Got Omega Supreme one Xmas. I guess it is my late 70s Millennium Falcon. Had it from when I was about 5 until I was early 20s. When we climbed up on the roof of my house. Packed the Falcon with M-60s. Lit the fuse and tossed it off the roof.

I can't really say that I have ever had any bad ones. I remember being ungrateful as an 8-year-old when I got a stereo system when I wanted a TV. Much later I regretted my behavior, though I still learned that the giver put in a lot of money into that thing and I really wish I wasn't so ungrateful, but again, I was 8. However, I do remember being embarrassed at getting underwear from an aunt.

I don't think anything will better the feeling I had when I got a Sega Mega Drive on Christmas morning 1990 The worst gift is any relative who buys me alcohol. They know I've been teetotal for about a decade but I still receive booze as a gift!

Best is hard to say, though I was actually moved to tears by a cheap photo album I got from my aunt just because it was from her, was family themed, and acknowledged my interest in photography.
I actually clipped the tag off the wrapping paper and attached it to the inside.
The following Christmas, she was on her deathbed with stage 4 lung cancer.
As for worst, probably a polo shirt. I've gone through or combined a lot of styles over the years, but polo shirts have never fit into any of them.

Best - I loved the PS1 my mam and dad got me as a kid. I also loved the trip to Singapore my wife got me for a birthday.
Worst - My auntie bought me this brand name wallet that was absolutely useless because it was too big to fit into my pockets without half if it sticking out the top. The thing was huge.

Best gift: When I was 15 and 16 respectfully, my father gave me a TV and a boombox. They're old but they still work perfectly.
Worst gift: He gave me a thing of Teen Spirit deodorant as a stocking stuffer one year. Haha.

Best: I was 6 years old that Christmas. I still remember the fold-up cover and seeing the alternate versions on the back of the box. Worst: Socks and underwear while being a kid. That's something your parents should get you when you need it. Getting it as a gift? Insulting, almost.
