Clancy Brown will forever be the voice of Lex Luthor as far as the animated series go but for Michael Rosenbaum in Smallville brought the complete package. His Lex Luthor from the beginning of being just a "normal guy" to the end when he became the deranged Lex we know was almost spot on perfect. Sadly, they couldn't get him instead of Eisenberg.
Who do you think was the best?

Clancy Brown and Gene Hackman will be my favorites.
I used to have a softspot for Kevin Spacey's Luthor in Superman Returns, but that got ruined recently for obvious reasons.

Gene Hackman, Clancy Brown and Micheal Rosenbaum were the only good luthors. All the other protrayals pale in comparison or just flat out sucked(Eisenburg)

Gonna assume this is just counting live action.
Just a small bit of the amazing performance that was only topped by Lionel.
He IMO just embodied everything a live action Lex should be and he like Clark had to be a character you watched evolved and change into the Lex everyone knows and it was amazing to watch knowing exactly where he ends up in life from the start having this genuine friendship with Clark and something he did really cherish.
And you sympathize with the thought that Lex becoming who he becomes is Clarks fault.

Clark fueled Lex's obsessive nature by never being straight forward with him and Lex feeling more and more lied to from someone who he saw as his only friend......and this would come to bite clark in the ass when that samething would drive the love of his life into Lex's arms.

Agreed. Clark wasn't straight up with Lex (I mean how could he when his father is Lionel) and that fueled Lex obsession and with Lionel in his head the descent into madness was moving along. That's what makes him a good character, it's not that he did evil shit just because, he became that way through his own decisions and things out of his control Wasn't that whole thing between Lex and Lana just bullshit tho. I know the initial start of it was when Zod took over Lex body, then the whole pregnancy shit happened (which was fake), faked her death and she got injected with Kryptonite so she would never be able be around Clark again

Clancy Brown and Michael Rosenbaum.
Bryan Cranston SHOULD be Luthor.

Hackman and Brown were both great.
Darkhorse candidate: Sherman Howard from "The Adventures of Superboy".

That slowly drives Lana further towards Lex and he basically takes full advantage.....the fake pregnancy was a test and also his way to seal the deal..fast forward through more clark and lana drama including reuniting and giving people hope that finally no more drama they are together....but nope commence brainiac putting her into a sort of coma and then her breaking up with clark yet again at the hands of Tess Mercer and then coming back in season 8 to reignite something people wanted no more of......which includes yep a superpowered suit that absorbs kryptonite and clark willingly killing himself to be with her still in their final scene. She then gets the suit removed in the season 11 comic thanks to Metallo absorbing the kryptonite and destroying the suit. AAAAAAND done lol.

Good lord I forgot how bad they f**ed up that relationship. I mean once they did the 100th episode and Johnathan died and Clark left Lana the shit was all downhill from there. In comparison I hated the Clark/Lois pairing at first because we all knew it was happening but it just seemed shit but the two grew to have really good chemistry on screen As i've said before when talking Smallville I didn't watch every episode after Lex left in Season 7 so i'll take the time to eventually. I forgot what Lex did for the finale when they brought him back

I thought Smallville was an absolute trash heap of a show, with the exception of Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. They gave you a compelling story arc to explain his descent into villainy, and when he finally made the full heel turn, it was brilliant. Easily my favorite live action Lex.

I forgot what Lex did for the finale when they brought him back Oh yea they f***ed around with that relationship so bad...clark bent to her every will because she was made to be perfect and he would always go back to her even in the face of better women....Alicia being the primary one. All people wanted as either them together till the end of the series or them not together....I thought they had tremendous chemistry when writers were not dicking around with the relationship but they did and it made for a horribly written relationship......so congrats to Oliver and Felicity they reached the worst parts of the Clana relationship in a much shorter time span lol. Clark and Lois were perfect once they rid the characters of the stuff that bogged down the Lana relationship.

Yea the first 4 seasons of Clark and Lana going from friends to a relationship was really good character development and they had a lot of on screen chemistry for the first 5 seasons and then it went out the door after the 100th episode. For the most part the cast as a whole had good chemistry with Lionel and Lex being great villains that held the show together
