I mean as far as newer stuff goes Over the last few years I have watched I would recommend 91 days, my hero academia, and psycho pass The one relatively more recent (if 2014 counts as recent) show that looks really interesting to me is Nobunaga the Fool, but I haven't got around to it yet. I’ve heard of it but never watched it. There’s still a lot of stuff out there I would like to watch but I hate to see stories not finished fully which is why I stick to manga even tho those stories reach from weekly to once a month

For me those fall, respectively, into never watched it but doesn't seem like something I'd like, liked season one and stopped giving a shit fast in season two, and not watched it but kind of been meaning to, though mostly because I want to check out the visual novel. I'd say the last new ones I really got into and followed regularly with any sort of desire to watch them again afterward were Death Parade (though I see it being a LONG time before I'm ready for that emotional gut punch again), Dragon Maid, Interviews with Monster Girls, and Shimoneta. I was liking Saga of Tanya the Evil and ACCA but just kind of fell out of following them and not really gotten the desire to dive back into them. By and large though, past few seasons haven't done much for me. Been kind of keeping an eye on King's Game though because that shit's hilarious in how inept it is. Well you’re not wrong. Psycho Pass season one is flashes of Cowboy Benop greatness with a different spin. It’s essrntially minority report animated. Season 2 fell off a bit 91 days is a mafia revenge type anime. I just watched it this weekend after having it on the burner for a while and I enjoyed it. One season of 12 episodes. My Hero Academia is the new major shounen anime which I believe is some of the best to be out in a while. Fight scenes are great and deep enough cast. I wanted to watch Death Parade after I watched Gangsta which were the two most praised anime. Gangsta I knew about since I read the manga but Death Parade is still on my list It was MHA I stopped at all caring about in season two. Not seen any of Psycho Pass but been meaning to. Though gotta admit comparing it to Cowboy Bebop's a bit of an, "Ehhhh..." to me because I'm the one anime fan who has never remotely liked Cowboy Bebop. Can recognize the artistry and all and the music's great but to me it's just a tonally-confused bore where I don't at all care about any of the characters.

You got clear motivation and a clear story. I can understand tho if it isn’t for everyone. Like I said for me Season one is some of the best I’ve seen in a long time but Season 2 dropped the ball and The movie picked the ball back up and gained some decent yards. Music and scenery is great

I don't know if I'd call myself cynical. But I have found less and less animes that I find interest in.
I mean, I like Lupin, Voltron/GoLion, Speed Racer/Mach GoGoGo, Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop, Gundam, Outlaw Star, Big O, InuYasha, Ranma 1/2, Detective Conan, anything Hayao Miyazaki, and a few others.
But there's not really anything new showing up that really interests me. Might just me being an old fuddy duddy, but I kinda like the classics.

I'd argue because anime and manga crossed the threshold and the fans got TOO MUCH anime and manga.
Sturgeon's Law is in place: 90% of everything is crap.
When anime started to get released in America, not a lot of anime and manga was released in the US. As a result, what did get released was, by and large, the best of the best of anime. So anime and manga got popular.
As a result of anime and manga getting popular, companies brought over more anime and manga to meet the demand. There was still enough of a backlog that there was still a lot of great stuff coming over- but as anime and manga got popular, a little trickle of crap started to get through and come to the US. It was still a small amount, so it remained popular.
As anime and manga was this popular, and there was so much good stuff coming over, then anime and manga got popular enough they'd bring virtually everything released in Japan over....and as a result, more and more crap got released in the US. As this happened, things started to come to a head.
Eventually, we got to a point where everything is released Stateside...but at the same time, "EVERYTHING" is released here. We get all the anime and manga we'd want, but we also get a steady stream of crap just as much as the good stuff, the crap vastly outweighs the good stuff, and it's lost a lot of its popularity as a result.
(See also why wrestling fans are so cynical- this can also be argued as the same for different styles of wrestling.
